The boy who remembers everything.

I heard she is finally going home today. The brain is very powerful. Her mind is unable to handle the memories of what happened, so it blocked it out. As I watch her, I envy her. I wish I could forget, just wipe away all the ugly and the bad. I’m not as lucky as the pretty, lost girl.

I would gladly trade places with her. She has no idea how good forgetting can be.

The girl who forgot everything.

I’m going home today. There is nothing the hospital can do to help me remember the last three years. They say I was attacked, but I can't help them find who it was. They say I'll eventually regain my memories but, it takes time. What happens when you run out of time? Regaining my memory becomes a deadly game of life or death.

Landon

I now have Willow against the brick wall. I put my hand on her shoulder to feel how tense she is. Lightly running my hand down her arm, I reach her fingers and loosen the neck of the violin from her grip. I set it to the ground gently and do the same to her bow in the opposite hand.

I lightly massage her palms and she gasps. I'm only inches from her body. Her lips are parted and her eyes are wide. I close the distance so my chest is flush against hers. I feel her everywhere we touch. She's soft, warm, and giving me a buzz.

"What are you doing?" she asks.

I don't answer. Instead, I run one hand up the inside of her arm. Goosebumps follow the two fingers I trail lightly over her skin. My hand curves over her shoulder just as her breathing quickens. I stare down at her eyes where the pupils are so large that the green has disappeared.

"Landon," she whispers.

"Willow," I tease back. My hand moves over her collarbone and wraps around the back of her neck.

She's trapped in my hold. Pinned to the brick behind her, she hasn't made a move to break free. Her eyelids get heavy and her look is hooded. When I lick my lips, she watches the movement. I love the way she looks right now. She's in a trance, spellbound, and only looking at me. I lean forward, my stare narrowing on her pink lips.

For the first time, I'm imagining a future. Always so busy replaying the past, I never look forward. I'm picturing my mouth covering hers. I'm imagining what she would taste like and the sound she would make when I flicked my tongue against hers. When I see her swallow hard, I see myself kissing down the soft skin of her throat. I let myself play out a scenario where we keep going. I hear her moans, see her squeezing her thighs together. She pants and arches her body into mine.

"Landon. Don't," she breathes across my lips. "Please."

Logan's eyes went wide as he looked around from the doorway. Hundreds of red and blue Solo cups lined the floor, full of water. A cup occupied every inch of floor on the first floor. He was stuck in the doorway because I only left enough space for the door to wing open. I cackled when I did that, thinking I had it all figured out.
He finally noticed me sitting on the counter next to the sink. Logan bit his lower lip and he glared at me. I shrugged and smiled. In my brilliant planning, I blocked myself in at the sink with the cups. I was sitting on the counter with nowhere to go unless I knocked over the cups or rearranged. I didn't leave any space to actually move cups, so I was pretty screwed.
"You're home early, honey," I said sweetly.
"You're lucky I can't get to you," he mumbled as he started to pick up some cups. He quickly realized there was nothing to do with them, causing me to start laughing.
Logan spun around in a circle with a perplexed look on his face, making me laugh even harder. As I wiped tears off my face, he took some cups and dumped them in the front yard. At that rate, he would be here all night just trying to get upstairs.
"You stuck over there?" he asked me.
"A little," I admitted.
His grin made me worry as he left the house. I frantically searched for a way out of the room. I had no idea what he was up to, but it couldn't be good. When he finally appeared in the doorway, I was standing on the counter, contemplating jumping to the table.
A steady stream hit me square in the chest before I saw the massive water gun. I screamed and tried to block the cold spray. Logan laughed as he continued to soak me. The only pause in the water was when he would bend over to dump cups in a bucket he grabbed. Smarty-pants.
"Okay," I yelled. "I surrender! Please stop!"
"What's wrong? Don't like being beat at your own game?"
"The water is freezing," I managed to squeak between shivering and laughing.
Logan stopped shooting and I dared to look up and found he made a path and was standing in front of me where I sat huddled on the counter. He was biting his lip to keep from laughing but his eyes were amused.
"I'm soaked," I complained.
"Good to know I can make you wet," he threw back.
I snorted and let my legs dangle over the countertop. My clothes clung to body as the cold water seeped through my jeans and shirt, giving me goosebumps.
"You want to feel how wet you made me?" I asked, lowering my voice and licking my lips. I can play games too.
I watched his throat as he swallowed roughly and watched me wearily. I slid off the counter, touching my feet to the floor. There was barely an inch between our bodies and I could feel his breath on my face. I winked at him before throwing my arms around his neck and hugging him.
He let out a yelp of surprise when his thin shirt started to soak through with the water from me. He tried to push me off him but I only held on tighter, laughing at his discomfort and panic. I could feel the warmth of his chest on mine as he took some of the cold water from me.
When he put his arms on my sides and started to lift, I wrapped my legs around his waist to stop his escape. He cursed and fought to pry my arms off of him while I giggled and enjoyed my payback. If I was going to be cold and wet, he was going down to.
Logan pinned me against the counter and stopped struggling. "Fine. You win," he said, short of breath.
"Damn right," I said as I loosened my fingers and slid my hands to his shoulders.
I stilled, realizing the position were in and the warmth spreading through my body. His body was still pressed against mine, warming me up from the inside out. My legs were wrapped around his waist as I pulled back to find us eye-level.
"Still cold?" he asked with a knowing smirk.
"A little," I answered, sounding slightly breathless.

He leaned forward and my heart pumped faster, thinking he was going to kiss me again. His lips brushed past my cheek and tickled my ear as he whispered, "want me to warm you up?"

Exclusive Excerpt

What a colossal waste of time, I thought as I slid my jeans back up and buttoned them. The room was dark as I searched the dingy carpet for my shirt. I knew I tossed it over this way. Finally finding the purple low-cut top I wore out tonight, I pulled it over my head and ran my fingers through my long, dark hair.

"Thanks, Mike," I called over my shoulder. "That was great," I lied.

"It's Matt," he panted.

I mumbled something that could have been an apology and looked over my shoulder at Matt. He was still on his back, trying to catch his breath. A thin coat of sweat covered his chest and his rock-hard abs glistened from the street lamp that shone through his blinds. He really was sexy, especially naked. It was a pity he didn't live up to my expectations.

I gave him a flirty wave and grabbed my purse off the floor before leaving the half-naked guy alone in his room. He grunted a bye to me without bothering to move. At least someone was satisfied. I let myself out of his room, trying to avoid the roommates I knew were in the "party-room", playing beer pong.

"Scarlett!" someone yelled. "Be on my team!"

"No, I'm good," I hollered as I kept walking. I’d had enough to drink and I was sure my hand-eye coordination had decreased since my first few games. In fact, it was probably non-existent by this point.

I weaved through the house, keeping my hand on the wall for balance. I had no idea what I was thinking going to another college party. I knew from my short stint at the University of Cincinnati that the parties held around campus were always the same. There were drunk guys looking to get laid and even drunker girls to take advantage of.

I wasn't one of those girls. No one took advantage of me anymore. I knew when I crawled into a boy's bed that, after a whole twenty minutes of slurred conversation, they would not be calling the next day. In fact, that was the main reason I attended tonight. I had no false assumptions that the guy I bedded would be calling me ever again. This was sex, a release, and nothing more.

I stumbled down the hall and found the bathroom. I slipped inside, locking the door behind me. My reflection stared back at me. My long, dark hair was a tangled mess with streaks of brightly colored hair sticking out everywhere. My eyes were bloodshot and surrounded with heavy makeup and perfectly winged eyeliner. I had a hickey on my collarbone, and my cheeks were flushed pink. I was the definition of a hot mess.

I leaned over a sink that had seen better days and filled my cupped hands with cold water. I splashed my face, hoping to reverse the effects of the tequila shots I took when I first arrived. The walls continued to close in and my reflection stared back, judging.

"Shit," I whispered to myself.

I couldn't drive now, or any time soon for that matter. I pulled out my phone and dialed the one number I knew would save me. It went to voicemail twice before he finally picked up. I heard rustling and grunting before his gruff voice filled my ear.

"What?"

"I need a ride," I said in the sweetest voice I could muster.

"Where are you?" he asked without missing a beat.

"Off campus. I'll text you the address."

"Fuck, Scarlett," he scolded. "That's almost a half hour drive."

"Thank you, Logan," I said before ending the call.

Logan would come for me. He always did.
