Blog Tour Book Review: Resonance Surge by Nalini Singh

at 7/18/2023 12:30:00 AM 0 comments

Twins Pavel and Yakov Stepyrev of the StoneWater bear changeling clan have been an inseparable unit since birth, but now their lives are moving in different directions.

Pavel is in the mating dance with Arwen Mercant, the only man to ever bring him to his knees. A Psy empath, Arwen is free to feel emotion now that Silence has fallen. While he is free to love in the open now, it doesn’t come easy. Pavel walks a fine line in loving Arwen, careful not to push him too far, too fast.

Another pair of twins, Pax and Theodora Marshall, have a bond with a far darker history. A low-Gradient Psy, Theo is considered worthless by everyone but her violently powerful and loyal brother, Pax. She is the only person he trusts to investigate a hidden and terrible part of their family history—an unregistered rehabilitation Center established by their grandfather.

The Centers, places of unimaginable pain designed to psychically wipe minds, are an ugly remnant of the Psy race’s Silent past. And now Theo must uncover the awful truth of this secret Center alongside Yakov, who certainly doesn’t trust her. Especially considering that Theo has been haunting his dreams since he was sixteen…

Yakov is the great-grandson of a foreseer and he’s already seen Theo’s death. The question is how can he stop it?

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader's copy from Berkley, an imprint of HarperCollins, via Penguin Random House. The following thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. Spoilers below. Read at your own risk.

I've been a fan of Nalini Singh and her Psy-Changling series for a long time. Writing is not easy, especially when writing a series. Keeping the story fresh while incorporating a full cast of characters is a juggling act that I think Nalini is very good at.

This book is a little different from previous Psy-Changeling-Trinity books. We're back with the StoneWater Bears! Pavel and Yakov Stepyrev with their love interests Arwen Mercant and Theodora Marshall, respectively. Since the book features two couples, there is alternating POV. I like alternative POVs because we see the world from that character's perspective. We see other characters that add context to the current state of the world, especially since the creation of the island on the PsyNet created by Ivan Mercant (see Storm Echo). Due to having a F-Psy ancestor, Pavel and Yakov have heightened psychic senses. Since he was sixteen, Yakov has been dreaming of Theo, however, the dreams stopped. It was only until recently that he started to have dreams of an adult Theo and her subsequent death. It certainly doesn't help that there is a serial killer running around Moscow killing women with similar hair and coloring to Theo.

The Marshall Group was something I wondered about. Lead by Pax Marshall, following the assassination of Councilor Marshall Hyde, the Marshall Group is a nest of vipers despite their adherence to Silence. Pax Marshall, is presented as a typical Psy with Silent guards, but he cares for his twin sister, Theo. I appreciated the bond between brother and sister, especially since they're twins. Pax is waging battles on all fronts, within the family and in the business world. If that wasn't hard enough, he also has Scarab Syndrome. He's a ticking time bomb. He's mentioned throughout the book and has interactions with several characters, but the scene at the end of the book makes me nervous for the future of the Psy-Changeling universe.

Back to the main couples, the romance between Yakov and Theo was quickly established. The whiplash I got from how quickly this pair got together was something else. I thought their relationship progressed too fast, but at the same time, I understand that Yakov's "known" her for some time. The initial wariness between Yakov and Theo quickly turned into a tenuous partnership and genuine affection. Moving on to the other couple: in previous books, Arwen and Pavel have been dating, but in this book, it's established that same-sex mating bonds is possible (I cannot remember if same-sex mating bonds were previously established). Nalini has written many books and all of them have featured a male-female hetero main couple. It wasn't until recently that she wrote about the relations of same-sex couples (e.g. Aodhan and Illium) and even then, it focused more on the emotional aspect of their relationship. I assume Nalini Singh is cis-het so it makes sense for her to not delve too deeply into the sexual aspect of a same-sex couple's relationship. Her same-sex characters' interactions with each other portrays deep intimacy through other physical means, rather than just sex. Sex scenes that do occur on paper are generalized and focuses more on the emotional connection, rather than the physical.

The plot of this story was decent enough. Theo is investigating an unregistered rehabilitation Center established by her grandfather, Marshall Hyde. Little tidbits from other Psy-Changeling books portrayed Marshall Hyde as an incredibly cruel and sadistic Psy, despite the facade of Silence. We learn in this book that he funded several rehabilitation Centers to have a supply of guinea pigs for mind-altering experiments. Following his death and Pax's bid for control of the Marshall Group, the discovery of the disclosed and undisclosed rehab centers got the ball rolling as more and more of Marshall Hyde's depravity and cruelty is revealed. Overall, this book was a solid continuation of the Psy-Changeling universe.

ARC Review: Love at First Set by Jennifer Dugan

at 5/23/2023 12:30:00 AM 0 comments

This irresistible adult debut from beloved YA author Jennifer Dugan is a queer romcom for fans of Delilah Green Doesn’t Care and Written in the Stars, in which a woman gives a drunken bathroom pep talk to a hot stranger, only to find out it’s the bride-to-be she has convinced to leave her fiancé the night before the wedding.

The gym is Lizzie’s life—it’s her passion, her job, and the only place that’s ever felt like home. Unfortunately, her bosses consider her a glorified check-in girl at best, and the gym punching bag at worst.

When their son, Lizzie’s best friend James, begs her to be his plus one at his perfect sister Cara’s wedding, things go wrong immediately, culminating in Lizzie giving a drunken pep talk to a hot stranger in the women’s bathroom—except that stranger is actually the bride-to-be, and Lizzie has accidentally convinced her to ditch her groom.

Now, newly directionless Cara is on a quest to find herself, and Lizzie—desperate to make sure her bosses never find out her role in this disaster—gets strong-armed by James into “entertaining” her. Cara doesn’t have to know it’s a setup; it’ll just be a quick fling before she sobers up and goes back to her real life. After all, how could someone like Cara fall for someone like Lizzie, with no career and no future?

But the more Lizzie gets to know Cara, the more she likes her, and the more is on the line if any of her rapidly multiplying secrets get out. Because now it’s not just Lizzie’s job and entire future on the line, but also the girl of her dreams.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader's copy from Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, via NetGalley. The following thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. Spoilers below. Read at your own risk.

Jennifer Dugan is known for her YA titles and graphic novels. Hot Dog Girl was one of the many YA books I have read over the years so I was interested in how different (or not so different) Jennifer's writing would be with a different audience. Spoiler alert: If you liked Delilah Green Doesn’t Care and Written in the Stars, this book is for you.

Lizzie, our leading lady, works at a gym run by her best friend's parents (one of many spoiler alerts: they are the worst). Lizzie is a gym rat (said with affection) and dreams of someday owning and running her own gym. While the gym may be her home away from home, it's not a supportive environment. Her bosses are emotionally abusive and classist, and Lizzie's self-confidence takes hit after hit. One of the only silver linings was her bestie, James, her bosses' son. The story gets rolling with James asking Lizzie to be his plus one to his sister Cara's wedding. After consuming an unrecommended amount of alcohol, Lizzie has a drunken pep talk with a woman in the bathroom. Turns out, it was the bride and said bride bounces from the wedding. Cara, ex-bride, is determined to find herself and James assigns Lizzie to keep watch, but also "guide" her around.  As Lizzie and Cara get to know each other, things get a little heated...and messy. I'm talking about rom-com level messy. There's lots of emotional trauma and drama to go around. Lizzie and Cara were relatable in different ways. Lizzie's relationship with her mother was hard to read about. She deserves better!

A laugh-out-loud rom-com about learning to embrace living outside your comfort zone.

As a shy school librarian, Alexis Stone is comfortable keeping out of the spotlight. But when she’s dumped for being too meek—in bed!—she decides she needs to change. And what better way to kick-start her new more adventurous life than with her first one-night stand?

Enter Logan, the gorgeous, foul-mouthed stranger she meets at a hotel bar. Audacious and filterless, Logan is Alexis’s opposite—and boy, do opposites attract! Just as she’s about to fulfill her hookup wish, the hotel catches fire in a freak lightning storm. In their rush to escape, Logan is discovered carrying her into the street, where people are waiting with cameras. Cameras Logan promptly—and shockingly—flees.

Turns out Logan is none other than Logan Arthur, the hotshot candidate challenging the Texas governor’s seat. What could possibly go wrong?

This book was a bit surprising, given the blurb. An elementary school librarian and a hotshot politician as the main characters sounds like the something you'd find on fanfiction websites. I'm happy to report that this book exceeded my expectations. Our leading lady is Alexis Stone, librarian, and she's devastated. Her ex-boyfriend dumps her because of her "meekness" in the bedroom, Alexis is determined to prove him wrong. Her plan? Find an acceptable person to have a one-night stand with. This book screams rom-com energy, and it delivers. Alexis meets Logan at the hotel bar, and they hit it off. Unfortunately, before they can do the deed, the fire alarm goes off and for some reason, the paparazzi are snapping pictures of Alexis and Logan. Turns out, Logan is an up-and-coming (no pun intended) hotshot candidate gunning for the Governor's position. To mitigate the sh*tstorm of this "scandal," fake dating and romance ensues. The MC is relatable and down to Earth. The progression between Alexis and Logan's relationship was at an acceptable pace. There were also other themes mixed in, such as grieving a loved one and putting yourself first. I enjoyed this book very much.

Blog Tour Book Review: The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton

at 4/18/2023 12:30:00 AM 0 comments

Known as Agent A, Alice is the top operative within the Agency of Undercover Note Takers, a secret government intelligence group that is fortunately better at espionage than at naming itself. From managing deceptive witches to bored aristocratic ladies, nothing is beyond Alice’s capabilities. She has a steely composure and a plan always up her sleeve (alongside a dagger and an embroidered handkerchief). So, when rumors of an assassination plot begin to circulate, she’s immediately assigned to the case.

But she’s not working alone. Daniel Bixby, otherwise known as Agent B and Alice's greatest rival, is given the most challenging undercover assignment of his life— pretending to be Alice’s husband. Together they will assume the identity of a married couple, infiltrate a pirate house party, and foil their unpatriotic plans.

Determined to remain consummate professionals, Alice and Daniel must ignore the growing attraction between them, especially since acting on it might prove more dangerous than their target.

I absolutely adore the Dangerous Damsels series. It's the perfect mix of well-timed humor, witty banter, romance, action and witchy shenanigans. Not to mention, Ms. Holton included all of my favorite tropes. We got a fake wedding, close proximity, and enemies (more like rivals) to lovers. Our leading lady is Alice, lady's maid by day and intelligence operative by night. Known as Agent A, Alice works for the Agency of Undercover Note Takers, and she has been tasked to work together with her greatest rival, Agent B a.k.a. Daniel Bixby, a.k.a. former butler to the rogue pirate Rotten O'Riley. Their mission? Go undercover as a married couple, infiltrate a pirate house party and thwart an assassination attempt. Easy peasy, right? Everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong. The only thing that does work and grow stronger is their attraction for each other. We see cameos from the previous books' characters, which was a delight. The character development throughout the book was top-notch and the plot was chaotic at best (which is a compliment when dealing with pirates and aristocratic ladies). Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

Blog Tour Book Review: What the Hex by Jessica Clare

at 4/06/2023 01:30:00 AM 0 comments

Enemies-to-lovers has never been more enchanting in this witchy romantic comedy.

Penny Roundtree wants nothing more than to be a familiar to a witch. She’s been a member of the Society of Familiars ever since she was old enough to join the Fam. There’s just a small problem—no one’s hiring. Witches and warlocks are so long-lived that there are far more familiars available than witches to train them. So when an unorthodox arrangement to apprentice under the table to a forbidden warlock presents itself, she takes it.

Willem Sauer is banned from having a familiar due to past transgressions, thereby limiting his magic-casting abilities. Unfortunately for the surly, Prussian warlock, he has no choice but to work with enthusiastic Penny as a familiar. They immediately clash like dried roan horsehair and honeycomb gathered by moonlight (it’s a terrible spell combination, ask anyone).

Casting spells has delightful perks Penny never could have dreamed of, but also greater dangers. Someone is targeting Penny. Willem and Penny must work together to catch their enemy, and if their ploy requires a little kissing on the side, who is to question the rules of magic?

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader's copy from Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, via NetGalley. The following thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

All of my favorite elements were in this book. We got the grump-sunshine trope, witches and warlocks, magic and mayhem, mystery and a good amount of romantic comedy to provide some levity. Our leading lady, Penny Roundtree, was featured in the previous book Go Hex Yourself and I am so glad she got her own book. Due to the lack of available witches and warlocks who can train Familiars, Penny is stuck in limbo. Being a Familiar is her life's mission and unfortunately, she's at a standstill. So of course, when she is offered a position as a Familiar, she jumps on it, despite the somewhat controversial warlock in question. Willem Sauer, said controversial warlock, is not happy with the arrangement with Penny, but is too impatient for his Familiar ban to end. Their partnership is working out great...until threats to Penny's life crop up. Who could it possibly be? Overall, the plot/story was solid, character development and backstory were fantastically done.

Blog Tour Book Review: The Scandalous Ladies of London: The Countess by Sophie Jordan

at 3/29/2023 12:13:00 PM 0 comments

New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan kicks off her amazing new high concept series, The Scandalous Ladies of London, which chronicles the lives of a group of affluent ladies reigning over glittering, Regency-era London, vying for position in the hierarchy of the ton. They are the young wives, widows, and daughters of London’s wealthiest families. The drama is big, the money runs deep, and the shade is real. Life is different in the ton.

“My husband is a good man… just ask all the women he has bedded.”

Wealthy society maven Lady Gertrude knows how the world works. If her husband is less than faithful, it’s an acceptable price to pay for her coveted position at the apex of London’s most fashionable set. No exclusive soirée or lavish ball is complete without her and her group of decadent, well-connected friends. And this Season promises more excitement than usual: Tru is launching her daughter into Society, helping her navigate the cutthroat Marriage Mart, complete with fortune hunters, jealous debutantes, and malicious gossips.

As skilled as Tru is at playing the high-stakes games of the ton, she never expects to meet her match—until Jasper Thorne begins to court her daughter. Jasper needs a titled bride, but when he meets Tru, all his carefully laid plans go up in smoke. The attraction between Tru and Jasper is undeniable…and unacceptable. To indulge in an affair with her daughter’s suitor would be ruinous. If it becomes public, she’ll never survive the scandal. Especially as it becomes clear that he wants more than one night…he wants the impossible. He wants forever.

A sizzling story of scandalous ladies, irresistible temptation, and the dangers—and joys—of being true to yourself.

Well, that was interesting. The first book in the Scandalous Ladies of London series gives readers a sneak peek into a new cast of characters with a spin on traditional Regency romance novels.
Lady Gertrude married young and as a naive debutante, thought she made a great match by marrying a handsome Earl. Unfortunately, he tried out to be a horse's arse. Unfaithful, misogynistic, and hypocritical, the Earl turned out to the be worst. At least he had a tiny kernel of decency left to live separately from Tru and their two children, rather than being underfoot and making everyone miserable. When their daughter makes her formal debut and becomes the highlight of the Season, Tru aims to help her daughter navigate the perilous waters of the Marriage Mart and hopefully make a good match. Sadly, things go a little awry when the Earl smells an opportunity to sell off his daughter to the highest bidder with the biggest purse (to fuel his extravagant expenditures) and he has the "perfect" husband candidate picked out. Unbeknownst to the Earl, Jasper Thorne is already interested in Tru! After a chance meeting with Tru, Jasper wants to know her on a more personal level. *wink wink* The older female lead paired with a younger male lead is a welcome surprise. Tru married young, had two children, and her needs/wants neglected while her husband slept around. It's about time she got some romance. Of course, there is the tiny issue of Jasper becoming her daughters intended. Overall, I thought the story was well-paced and had an interesting perspective. Rather than the fresh-faced debutante, it's the marriage-minded mama who gets the suitor's attention.

Book Review: Witcha Gonna Do? by Avery Flynn

at 12/15/2022 02:00:00 AM 0 comments

An unlucky witch and her know-it-all nemesis must team up in the first of a new, hot romantic comedy series from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn.

Could it possibly get any worse than having absolutely no magical abilities when you’re a member of the most powerful family of witches ever? It used to be that I’d say no, but then I keep getting set up on dates with Gil Connolly whose hotness is only matched by his ego. Seriously. I can’t stand him. Even if I also can’t stop thinking about him (specifically kissing him) but we’re going to pretend I never told you that part.

So yeah, my life isn’t the greatest right now, but then it goes straight to the absolute worst hell when I accidentally make my sister’s spell glitch and curse my whole family. And the only person who can help non-magical me break the spell? You guessed it. Gil the super-hot jerk.

Now we have to work together to save my family and outmaneuver some evil-minded nefarious forces bent on world domination. Oh yeah, and we have to do all that while fighting against the attraction building between us because I may not be magical, but what’s happening between Gil and I sure feels like it.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader's copy from Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, via NetGalley. The following thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

This is my first introduction to Avery Flynn and her writing style. First things first. The cover is 5/5. I love the leafy scrollwork with witchy paraphernalia sprinkled about. Our main character is Tilda Sherwood, a member of one of the most powerful witch dynasties that there ever was. It's too bad Tilda is decidedly unmagical. That's a rough hand to be dealt. If my many years of reading Korean manhwas have taught me anything, life can go one of two ways for a powerless MC. One, the MC is bullied, ridiculed, and reviled by their family members and the rest of society. Or two, the MC is protected and loved before experiencing a traumatic event that spurs their transformation into a powerhouse with a thirst for vengeance. Typically, it's the former. Tilda usually finds herself often humiliated and the butt of the joke. Her opposite and supposed nemesis,
Gil Connolly is the typical witchy researcher. The book is told in dual POV with the occasional Fourth Wall breaking. This is the first book in the Witchington series, but I felt like there was a lot going on at once and a lot left unresolved. The reasoning behind Tilda's dislike of Gil seemed superficial. The worldbuilding was both heavy and lacking in detail at the same time. There were mentions of the Council, the Resistance, and The Beyond, but there was little context of the whos, whats, and wheres. The rules of magic and magic theory were unclear and inconsistent. Since this was a witchy rom-com, the HEA was expected, but there was too much left unexplained and unexplored to be satisfactory.

ARC Review: Devouring Darkness by Chloe Neill

at 9/20/2022 01:30:00 AM 0 comments

In the newest installment of the USA Today bestselling Heirs of Chicagoland series, vampire Elisa Sullivan unearths an ancient grudge, with potentially devastating consequences.

As the only vampire ever born, and the daughter of two very powerful Chicago vampires, Elisa Sullivan knew her life was going to be…unusual. But she wanted to make her own way in the world, preferably away from her famous family. Then supernatural politics—and perhaps a bit of destiny—intervened, and Elisa had to steady her nerves and sharpen her steel to fight for the city of Chicago. Luckily, Connor Keene, son of the North American Central Pack’s Apex wolf, is right by her side.

When Elisa and her Ombudsman colleagues agree to escort a troubled sorceress to Chicago, they inadvertently set in motion a scheme of long-awaited magical vengeance. The city may pay an arcane price it can’t afford unless Elisa and her allies rise to the challenge.

Disclaimer: I received an e-galley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. Thank you, Penguin Random House (Berkley) for this opportunity. Beware of spoilers.

Where do I begin? As a major fan of the Chicagoland series, I had high expectations for the Heirs of Chicagoland. So far, no complaints here. Starting a spin-off of a beloved book series is a lot of pressure, but (in my opinion) Ms. Neill has consistently hit the mark with each book she writes. Since Wild Hunger, Elisa Sullivan has established herself as an individual and independently working as an Ombudsman, rather than relying on her family name and influence. The latest job required picking up a troubled sorceress to undergo Witness Protection, but unfortunately, things don't go according to plan. Elisa, her Ombuddy, and the target are attacked...by a mob of ghosts. Unfortunately, the trouble does not end there. A chain reaction of chaos ensues and it's up to Elisa and the other Ombudsmans to figure out what's going on and how to fix the issue.

While Elisa has her hands full with the top threat to Chicago, Connor has his own problems. Trouble is brewing among the pack. Visiting pack members are aiming for the position of Apex and have been sowing the seeds of mutiny. Connor is smart enough not to get swept up in pack politics, but these mutineers don't give him much choice. With Connor dating Elisa, several pack members feel that Connor isn't the right choice for Apex after his father's reign. Everything comes to a head when a challenge from the mutineers is issued. Commence fighting!

Coming back to Elisa and Connor's relationship, I feel that most of their issues have been settled in the previous books. They've admitted their feelings for each other and despite their young age (in comparison to their elders), they have a clear understanding of where the other stands. They support each other while they each go through their own separate battles, so to speak. However, this doesn't mean that everything was fine. Their relationship's longevity has been brought up on several occasions, particularly in this book. Despite knowing where Connor stands, Elisa fixates on his mortality. Due to her unique birth, no one knows how long Elisa's lifespan is, but most people assume that she'll have a longer lifespan than the average shifter. Connor's female suitors point this out every chance they get. Eventually, Connor and Elisa have a heart to heart, for which I am thankful for. Communication is key!

Side note, in this book, Lulu Bell has more impact. In previous books, I thought she was relegated to the peanut gallery rather than a solid side character. Previously, she's been portrayed as someone who was aware of her mother's past mistakes with dark magic and let that fear dictate her actions. Supposedly, Lulu didn't practice magic for fear of repeating her mother's mistakes. This time around, with limited options and resources, Lulu steps up to help Elisa. By the book's ending, the major conflict was resolved and Connor's status in the Pack hierarchy is cemented in stone. With this being the fourth book, everything was wrapped up nicely, but of course, the cliffhanger at the end leaves enough wiggle room for book 5 (which was confirmed by the author herself via Facebook). WOOHOO!

This is it! It's the conclusion of Catalina's story arc. I cannot put into words how desperately I wanted this book. I just have to know what sort of chaos and drama are packed into Ruby Fever. The book starts off with a concise summary of past events, while the Baylors are looking to purchase a new home/base of operations. With Runa and Bern going steady and the kids are mostly grown adults, everybody needs their own space. The story kicks off with a normal work day for Baylor Investigations. Unfortunately, one of their cases involves an expensive and smuggled spider, who escapes into the air vents after a botched hand-over. This becomes a humorous side quest for the kiddo consultants (Ragnor and Matilda). And then the sh*t hits the proverbial fan with a murder and an attack on the Warden of Texas. This sets off a chain of clashes and skirmishes between House Baylor and Arkan's organization. This book was packed. As in action-packed. Full of drama, love, and badassery. In the previous two books, Catalina comes into her own as a Prime Siren and Head of House Baylor. In this final book for Catalina, we delve into another facet of Catalina's Siren abilities. There were several plotlines that were neatly dealt with and some new ones were merely hinted at. We've seen in previous books that Cornelius may be more powerful than his Significant designation and in Ruby Fever, it's pretty clear that Cornelius is not only a strong animal mage but also a very observant and loyal friend. We also get a hint that Matilda may also be a Prime in her own right.

And then there is the whole Caesar subplot that was woven throughout the Hidden Legacies series, was revisited and we "finally" know the identity of Caesar. I had my suspicions for some time, but it was nice to get confirmation. Let's just say there are a lot of obvious details alluding to the identity of Caesar and the identity of their Grandfather (read the 'The Cool Aunt' deleted scene for clues). I did feel that Arabella was put on the back burner for a good chunk of the book. Since this pseudo-trilogy focuses on Catalina, it makes sense. Realistically, Arabella's powers should be kept secret, and involving her in a fight willy-nilly would not be in the best interest of the House. But on the same side, the epilogue kind of throws secrecy out the window (hint hint wink wink). I sincerely appreciate the fact that Ilona and Gordon hinted at a possible love interest for Arabella. If the writing duo ends up writing Arabella's story arc, they have some leeway and a place to start. With the arrival of an Imperial Russian Prince, Catalina and Alessandro's relationship is tested. The prologue included a lovely proposal with a ruby ring, but the engagement was hardly mentioned throughout the book. I found it a little odd, but given all of the action going on, it's understandable that some details would fall into the cracks. Overall, this book was the perfect conclusion to Catalina's story arc. And spoiler alert: there's a wedding to look forward to.

About the Authors

ILONA ANDREWS is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored two New York Times and USA Today bestselling series—the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and the romantic urban fantasy of The Edge. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.
