Release Day Blitz: Austin & Dylan by S.L. Scott

at 9/29/2014 12:49:00 AM 0 comments
1 Woman 2 Endings – You Choose – Team Dylan or
Team Austin. Sept 29 read one or both to see how it all plays out.

Four years ago, I was tempted with money, prestige, and power by a woman who offered to give me the world. That lifestyle came with a price. I had to leave the love of my life—the one person who had already given me everything I would ever need.

Today I watch Jules Weston in another man’s arms. Wanting… needing her back in my life again. But there are obstacles that keep us apart. Her boyfriend. Her best friend. Her anger that has raged inside her over the years.

Despite those, I’ve returned to take back what’s mine. The one thing I regret leaving behind—her heart.
Ever since that fateful day, I became an expert at avoidance.

Avoiding attachments.
Avoiding relationships.

Avoiding love.

My company became my constant, the only companion I needed… until a chance encounter with Jules Weston. I met her at a most vulnerable moment. Despite the tears that streaked her face, I fell in love the first time I ever laid eyes on her. I needed her in my life.

She was broken, but I knew I could heal her. I would wait until she let me into her heart, allowing me to love her. And maybe, just maybe, one day she could heal me too.

We shared a love that regulated every heartbeat and every breath we took. It was all encompassing. I thought our love could withstand time and anything thrown our way.

I was wrong. So wrong.

I used to be happy. I used to be Juliette Weston when Dylan Somers filled my life with promises of love and a happy ever after. But when he took my heart and broke it into a million pieces, I became someone else entirely. In one afternoon, I lost my soul mate. I lost everything I knew myself to be.

Three years later, the man who destroyed me is back.

To assuage his guilt? To finish the job? It doesn’t matter… I won’t let him this time. I’m stronger. I’ve moved on. He won’t affect me.

This is a story of love and betrayal. Pain and loss. Happiness and fate. It’s about finding your true destiny.

This is our story.

And it’s not for the faint of heart.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000031_00006]

Synopsis

Fast. That’s how I like life, especially my two great joys: bikes and women. I’m committed to exclusively riding one, but not the other.

Until April.

A sexy-arse freelance photographer who’s travelled the world, and doesn’t do long walks on the beach or romantic candlelit dinners. She enjoys running with the bulls and food spicy enough to make your hair fall out. If that weren’t enough to get me hard, she rides a mean mother of a motorcycle.

I’ve gotta have a taste of this wildcat.
~Spencer (Jones)

I don’t do fast. Not anymore. I’ve got my career, my independence, and since I fled Spain to come back home I promised myself that I wouldn’t be put second—or third, for that matter—again.

Then I meet pretty boy Spencer.

He’s smooth, oozing the most potent pheromones probably known to modern science, and he’s making a move on me. One kiss was almost enough for my promise to dissolve.

My head says no—my treacherous body screams yes. I’m gonna make Spencer work for it. Make him fight for the chance to have me, because I know that deep down I’m worth it.
~April MacIntyre

Excerpt

“Tell me you’ve got Patrón Tequila,” Rocco says to the bartender as he releases me from a headlock. I’d just finished sending my text when he grappled me.
“Sure do. How many glasses?” the bartender asks.
“Just two’ll do, but we ain't stoppin’ at one,” Rocco says, his gruff voice booming throughout the room.
Fuck, I’ll be pissed as a mute before I get outta here.
“Girls, get over here,” Rocco yells, motioning the two promo girls over.
Ah, fuck.
They’re both tall and ridiculously skinny with long, bleached-blonde hair and wearing tight white tank tops and short denim shorts. They both lean their backs against the bar, either side of Rocco, linking an arm around his waist.
He twists his body around. “Lemon and salt,” he barks at the bartender, who promptly places a salt shaker and a bowl of cut lemon wedges in front of him.
“Straddle yourself a honey, Jones, and follow my lead.”

Blog Tour Book Review: Mine to Have by Cynthia Eden

at 9/25/2014 12:00:00 AM 3 comments

Mine To Have
(Mine Series, Book #5)
by Cynthia Eden

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden continues her sexy “Mine” romantic suspense series with…MINE TO HAVE.

Is he a hero…or the villain?

When Elizabeth Ward sees Saxon Black rushing into the backroom of The Blade—a low end bar in Miami—she isn’t sure if he’s there to save the day…or just to raise some hell. But she’s being held hostage, and he’s her best hope of survival. Within minutes, she’s away from the jerks with the guns and riding fast and hard on the back of Saxon’s motorcycle.

Death stalks them.

Saxon has been working undercover for far too long. When he finds sexy Elizabeth—with a gun to her head—he knows he will do anything to keep her safe. But once he gets her away from her abductors, the threat to her isn’t over. Someone has put a price on Elizabeth’s head, and if Saxon can’t keep her safe from the danger stalking her, then she’ll be dead.

Their lives are both on the line.

As their enemies close in, Elizabeth and Saxon must go on the run. And the longer they are together, the hotter their attraction for one another seems to burn. Saxon vows not to let anyone hurt her, no matter what he has to do, because he’s falling fast for Elizabeth. He’ll stop the killers on her trail, and then he’ll have her. Forever.

MINE TO HAVE.

My Review

I love Cynthia Eden! I cannot say that enough. This book was, in my opinion, is the steamiest one yet. Cynthia has always has a way with weaving together a steady plot with a few twists, here and there and very HOT sex scenes. If you haven't read any of the books in the Mine series, it's okay to read Mine to Have by itself, but everything makes more sense if you have read the previous book.

In this book, the main focus is on Saxon and Elizabeth. Saxon is burnt out from undercover work and was about to retire all together when a call from Victor stops him. His mission is to retrieve the beautiful Elizabeth Ward from the clutches of a hired killer. From the instant he laid eyes on her, he was lost...in lust and desire. :) Highly inappropriate given the circumstances, but it works with his job title. Saxon gets her away from the psychopath, but that's not the end of the story. Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, she's got a hit on her. Mafia style. There's more than one person hoping to get the reward money for Elizabeth's death. What's a girl to do? You stick with Saxon, that's what.

As the story goes on, the chemistry between Elizabeth and Saxon is palpable and quite delicious. Despite the unorthodox meeting, Elizabeth and Saxon make a great couple. It was a rocky road through their relationship, but they came out on top. (haha sorry couldn't help myself) There was also a subplot that I thought heightened the mystery and suspenseful portions of the book. This featured Victor and his investigation as to who Elizabeth Ward is and what did she do to warrant a hit. This runs into several complications. There's a leak within Victor's department and who it is, is a mystery, but how far does the conspiracy go? People are getting murdered left and right and who can you trust? We see familiar faces from the previous book, which I liked.

This book, in case you haven't picked it up, is AWESOME! I've never had a bad experience reading anything from Cynthia Eden. A solid 5 stars to you, Cynthia! :)

Excerpt

“You can let go now.” His voice was the deepest, darkest rumble she’d ever heard, and it actually took a few seconds for his words to sink in. When they did, she was horrified. Her hands flew away from him and she shot off that motorcycle. A bad move, really, because her thighs were still shaking from the ride, and Elizabeth hit the ground.

Smooth move.

She pushed up fast, though, and staggered to her feet. Elizabeth tossed away her helmet and ran. Unfortunately, she didn’t get far. A big, strong hand caught her shoulder and spun her around. In the next breath, her back was being pushed into the nearby brick wall, and Saxon had her hands pinned above her head. He held her easily, her wrists trapped in one of his hands.

“Didn’t we cover this?” he muttered, and his voice, if possible, had gone even

deeper. “No screaming, no running—”

“No fighting,” she whispered back to him. “You said no...fighting. You never

said I couldn’t run.”

He laughed then. A sound that was as deep as his voice and sent shivers racing

over her body.

A man wasn’t supposed to laugh when a woman was terrified. She knew nothing about the guy except for the fact that she’d seen him shoot two men and beat the crap out of at least two more. And he’d said he...wanted her.

For an hour.

“Please, let me go.” Elizabeth wasn’t above begging, not then. She just wanted to survive that night. To get back to her apartment and pretend this whole terrible nightmare had never happened. “I won’t go to the police, I promise. I won’t tell them anything about you.”

His head came closer to hers. She couldn’t discern much about him in that moment, it was too dark, but she’d seen plenty in that terrible little room.

Saxon. He’d been huge, filling that doorway. He had to be at least six foot three, and his shoulders had been so wide, his arms heavy with muscles. He wore a faded t-shirt and loose jeans. He’d fought with a cold, vicious fury, and he hadn’t even broken a sweat when he’d taken down his enemies.

I thought Kurt was scary. He’s nothing compared to this guy.

“I don’t want to let you go.”

Those words terrified her. No, he terrified her. He leaned even closer. She could feel the light stir of his breath against her cheek. She had a flash of being tied in that chair and looking up—and into a pair of dark and deadly eyes.

And I asked him for help? A desperate woman would do anything. And she was
desperate right then.

In the Spotlight w/ Marissa Meyer

at 9/19/2014 12:00:00 AM 3 comments

~*~Marissa Meyer~*~

1.      How did you get the idea for sci-fi-esque fairy tales?

The idea started with a writing contest I entered years ago in which the host had listed ten random prompts and writers had to choose two of them to include in their stories. My two prompts: set it in the future and include a fairy-tale character. My contest entry was a sci-fi version of Puss in Boots and I had so much fun writing it that I thought I would try to do an entire series of sci-fi fairy tales!

A couple months after that I was drifting off to sleep when the lightning bolt struck: Cinderella… as a cyborg! I crawled out of bed and spent about an hour brainstorming and jotting notes. That would, of course, eventually grow into Cinder and The Lunar Chronicles.

2.      How did you pick which fairy tales to center around?

I started by making a list of my favorite fairy tales and stories that I thought would be fun to retell—there were maybe 10 or 12 on the list—then I started brainstorming different ways I could update them for a futuristic story. What science-fiction tropes could I bring into that tale? What new twists could I give it? The four that I ended up choosing (Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White) were the four that I felt like I had the best ideas for, and from early on I could begin to see how the stories would intertwine.

3.      As a writer, are you a plotter or a winger?

Definitely a plotter! I start every project with an outline. Not a very detailed, scary outline, but enough that I have a general idea of where the story starts and where it ends and what important thing happen in between. I also love the science behind “plot structure,” and I’m constantly analyzing my stories for things like the “inciting incident” and the “black moment” and these very writer-y terms, to make sure I’m building the strongest story I can.

4.      What is your intention with Fairest? Is it to garner sympathy for Queen Levana?

Not really, although I will be interested to hear if that’s a side effect of the book. (So far, of the handful of people who have read it, the reactions have been split pretty 50/50 between those that felt sorry for Levana at the end and those that want to stab her with a fork.) My intentions with Fairest are simply to tell her story. I think she has a fascinating tale, and a lot of things that happened to her in her teen years and at the beginning of her rule heavily impact the things that happen in Winter, so I hope it will give a new layer of dimension to the series as a whole.

5.      With Winter being the last book for the Lunar Chronicles, will you write a Scarlet and Wolf novella? ;)

Oh gosh, maybe! I don’t have any plans for one right now, but never say never. :)

6.      If the zombie apocalypse occurred, what would be your weapon of choice?

The lamp on my bedside table, lol! I’ve spent many sleepless nights thinking about how it will be the first thing I grab if a zombie comes in through the window (our bedroom is on the ground floor). But, you know, hopefully I would have a chance to upgrade a little more effective after that!

7.      Have you ever have a fan girl moment? (Do go into embarrassing detail)

I fangirl all the time on Twitter, but in real life I try to play it pretty cool, haha. I remember right after Cinder came out I was invited to a book festival and I was waiting in the hotel lobby for the van to come pick up the authors and take us to the festival and I realized I was sitting next to Holly Black. Holly Black! I felt like such a dork trying to talk to her like “a peer,” but she was so incredibly nice, and I did feel like, after a while—hey, I’m an author too now. I can do this!

8.      Which one of your heroines (Cinder, Cress, Scarlet, Winter) do you find most relatable?

I personally relate most to Cress. I wish I was resourceful like Cinder and brave like Scarlet, but I’m just not! This is part of the reason they’re so much fun for me to write, though. Whereas Cress is shy and awkward and nerdy, just like me, plus we both have these overactive imaginations. I think any writer could relate to that. And then there’s poor Winter. I relate to her on a lot of sympathetic levels, but she’s been through so much and seen so many awful things in her life that it’s put her on a plane all her own.

9.      As for “Captain” Carswell Thorne, will we get another bonus short story from his past?

I did write a short story called “Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky”—right now it’s only available in the special Target edition of Cress, but I hope to make it available on the internet soon. I don’t have any plans for writing another short story based on his character, but again, who knows? I’ll write anything I’m inspired by!

10.  Regarding Jacin Clay, a mystery in himself, will his role on Luna be explained more thoroughly in Winter?

Oh yes, Jacin becomes a really central character in Winter, and I’m happy to say that my three beta readers all gave him the thumbs-up. I hope readers will feel the same!

11.  In your books, cyborgs are treated like pariahs and second class citizens. Was this intentional and meant as a topic for reflection?

This was definitely intentional. My initial thought was to make it parallel the original Cinderella story, where she’s treated as a lower-class servant by her family and society. One of my favorite parts of the Cinderella story is the “rags to riches” theme, and the idea of how a girl can go from being a no-one to being a princess, so making Cinder a cyborg and second-class citizen was how I accomplished that. I like that it’s given the series a lot of depth as far as our human prejudices against people who are “different,” but I don’t usually give those themes a lot of thought while I’m writing. I’m just trying to tell a good story, and if it makes readers think about our real world, then it’s a bonus!

12.  How do you manage your time with so many different projects going on at once?

Haha. Hahaha. Ha.

Okay, seriously. This is a constant struggle! It’s definitely a challenge balancing not only multiple different writing projects, but also all the non-writing tasks that come with a writing career. (Book tours, school visits, media interviews, social networking, blogging, newsletters, responding to fanmail, reading contracts, and on and on.) I have to be very strict with myself. I make a weekly to-do list every weekend and break down the things that I have to accomplish and the things that I want to accomplish for each day. Then, in the morning, I’ll often schedule my  day down to the half hour. (From 9:00 to 10:00 I’m answering emails, from 10:00 to 11:30 I’m writing a  blog post, from 11:30 to 3:00 I’m revising the next two chapters of the current WIP, and so on.) Having it broken down for me like that helps to stay on task and not feel so overwhelmed… but then there are days when things take longer than you expect and it all falls apart. Oh well! Just be nice to yourself and keep moving forward.
