Blog Tour Promo Post: Artemis's Hunt by Lia Davis

Artemis's Hunt by Lia Davis

(Sons of War #2.5)

By Lia Davis

Artemis, goddess of the hunt, has lived with heartache for the last fifteen hundred years, believing her only love is dead. That’s what her father—Zeus, king of the gods—told her. After recent events brought the truth to light, Artemis must gather the courage to face her lost love again.

Evangelos, former god of messengers, was content living in the mortal world until he discovered he has a daughter and her mother is Artemis. When the goddess shows up at his place of employment with tales of renewing his god status, he’s skeptical. Zeus wouldn’t reverse the curse out of the goodness of his heart. There is always a catch. The god king wants something in return.

When Artemis explains she has to hunt down her stepmother, Hera, in order to get Evan back into Zeus’s good graces, Evan demands to accompany her. However, the journey turns out to be a test that could bring them closer together or tear them apart forever.

Excerpt

Artemis sat on a stone bench in the rose gardens outside the dragons’ home—her daughter’s

new home with her mate, Tyson. Tears blurred her vision and her nose tingled, fueling her anger at

herself for daring to believe for even an instant that things could be as they once were. Evan didn’t

want her, not after so much time had passed. She was going on Zeus’s mission, regardless— deliver his

message then return home, alone.

She sensed her daughter before she entered the small courtyard. “I saw Evangelos.”

“I know. He called.”

“He didn’t want me there.” Although she tried to contain the storm of emotions within, some

of her misery leaked out in her tone, frustrating her further. It was bad enough that she ached from

a rejection she should have foreseen. She should have better control than to let others, even her

daughter, know of her weakness, and finding she didn’t was humbling.

Ashlynn appeared in front of her as she knelt down and took her hands. “That is not true. He’s

hurting, like you. Men handle feelings different than we do.”

After a few moments, Artemis squared her shoulders. “I have to find Hera.”

“What? Why?”

She met her daughter’s concerned stare. “I have to deliver a message to her for Zeus. In

exchange, Evangelos gets reinstated as a god.”

Ashlynn stood, folded her arms, and narrowed her eyes. “If you live through it. Do you even

know where she is?”

“No, but I must find her.”

“Not alone, you aren’t.” The masculine voice behind her attracted her attention and Artemis

jumped to her feet and whirled around to glare at Evangelos, standing a few feet away. Annoyance

made her blood run cold. “You have no right to tell me what to do.”

He stepped forward, but Artemis held her ground. “Why do you get to choose how I get my

godhood back? How do you know I even want it back?”

Artemis drew back, shocked. How could he not want to return home? Return to her? Pain

gripped her heart like a vise, making it difficult to grasp what he tried to tell her. Had he moved on? A

lump lodged in her throat.

After a moment, she turned away. “I see.”

His thick, strong arms encircled her, squeezing her tight against him. “Please don’t teleport away

from this argument.”

The growl in his voice mixed with his familiar cedar scent was her undoing. It’d been too long

since she’d been held by him. Turning toward him, she cupped his face. “I’ve spent the last millennia and

a half believing you were dead, never seeing your smile, never hearing your voice. Now that I’ve found

you, it would be unbearable for me to let you go again.”

He stared at her for a brief moment before crushing his lips to hers. Sliding her hands to his

nape, she pressed her body to his and opened when he swiped his tongue along the seam of her lips.

Tingles skittered over his skin, intensifying her mounting desire.

Artemis broke the kiss. She released a sigh as she rested her head against his chest. “I need to

find Hera.”

Bloggerversary Part Uno: Book Review, Giveaway with a Q & A w/ Kevin Hearne

at 9/15/2013 10:00:00 AM 7 comments
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.
Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Where to begin? I first heard of Kevin Hearne from another book enthusiast I met at Mysterious Galaxy. It so happens that Kevin Hearne was going to be at the same Mysterious Galaxy. I took a chance and bought all of the Kevin Hearne books they had. I don't regret it because his stories are awesome! I don't usually read stories with a male lead protagonist, but I'm glad I did.

Atticus O'Sullivan is a young man in his twenties who has a "new age" type book/herb store. He also happens to be a 2,100 year old Druid, the last of his kind. He lives in Arizona with his Irish wolfhound, Oberon. He's be on the down low for some time now because he has a weapon that is coveted  by many, specifically a Celtic god. I did have some reservations about reading anything with a male protagonist because I am so used to the lovey dovey romance novels with a dashing hero, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually liked this book. Atticus may be older than dirt, but his mannerisms are that of a modern day college student. That's actually a very good survival technique.

After so many years of running and hiding, Atticus decided to stay in Arizona and plant some roots. In  Arizona, there is quite an abundance of supernatural creatures. Witches, werewolves, vampires, ghouls, ghosts, gods and goddesses. There's a several plotlines going on throughout the book, but Kevin expertly weaves them together to make a pretty bad-ass story. The pace was good; not too fast but not too slow. You meet new characters in Attitcus' life after every other chapter and they are just as interesting as the Iron Druid whose older than dirt.

A character that took my interest was Granuaile, the sexy, but modestly dressed bartender who works at the bar/restaurant that Attitus frequents. At the mention of a female character my mind immediately jumped to love interest, but that was not the case, for which I am glad. Granuaile is a pretty, young woman who also happens to share her head with the spirit of a Hindu witch. She's one smart cookie and the fact that Hearne focuses more on her intellect than her womanly wiles earned him brownie points in my book. I'm super excited to read the next book in the series.

Speedy Q & A with Kevin Hearne
Me and Kevin at Mysterious Galaxy Redondo Beach for his Hunted Release Party

CR: If your IDC series was to be made into a TV series, who would be in your ideal cast?

KH: I'm kind of rooting for a completely unknown cast if it's ever made into a series or movie. I'd rather see the cast become known through the series.

CR: To you, what is the most enjoyable part of being a writer?

KH: This might sound silly, but it's true: I love that I'm not required to wear pants when I work.

CR: With Shattered in the works, what can you tell readers to expect from the books to come?

KH: We'll continue to see other points of view from other characters besides Atticus. I like the challenge and it also allows me to tell slightly different stories in new voices.

CR: Out of all of the characters that have sprung from your imagination, who do you most identify with and why?

KH: I suppose it would be Granuaile. I'd love to be bound to the earth and learn its secrets; I'd love to go on the journey she's on.

CR: If you had to choose one person from your books to be stuck in an elevator with, who would it be and why?

KH: The widow MacDonagh, since she's based on my grandmother.

CR: I remember you said that you were going to write a Star Wars novel, how is that going?

KH: Still going. Working on it now. Can't say much else because I'm under a Nondisclosure Agreement.

CR: Who is you absolute favorite comic book hero and why?

KH: I think it's Poyo from the comic book CHEW. What's not to love about a bionic rooster assassin?
About the Author

He decided to try an epic fantasy. He wrote for three years and came up with 200,000 words or so, which turned out to be a bit long for an unknown author’s debut. He chopped it down and sent off a 114,000-word version to some agents, who all rejected it, but he also sent it to one publisher, who replied after only two weeks that it had passed the “first round” and would get passed on to other editors soon. He danced in the kitchen and put the letter on his fridge. A modicum of slush pile success! However, no other word came for many moons. He began to work on something else while he waited.
Kevin had an idea for a web comic featuring a Druid who could communicate mentally with animals, especially his own hound. Zuda.com was running a contest, and he scripted out eight pages and completed six of them before realizing that if he submitted his work, DC would own a piece of the characters, or maybe own them outright. He didn’t want that, because he liked these characters too much to share with anyone else. So he wrote a novel about Atticus and Oberon instead, and it turned out to be great fun and easier to write than anything else he’d tried before. He finished writing Hounded in eleven months, and still hadn’t heard back from the publisher about his epic fantasy. What the heck, he said, let’s try to get an agent with the urban fantasy.
He sent out a round of twelve queries and got some nibbles, but all ultimately rejected him. Sigh. He tweaked his first chapter for the twentieth time, revised his query letter, and sent out another round of twelve queries. He got some more nibbles, more rejections, but also an offer of representation from Evan Goldfried at Jill Grinberg Literary Management! Yay! Happy dance in the kitchen!
Evan sent Hounded to nine publishers on September 9, 2009, along with teasers for the next two books in the series. Inside of two weeks, four of those publishers bid on the book at auction. So it only took him nineteen years to become a “fortnight success.”
The point for aspiring writers: please note that Kevin wrote three books and got rejected a lot before he landed an agent and a publishing contract. He did it without any contacts in the industry—he was just a name attached to a story. And that story wasn’t for everyone—twenty-three agents passed on it and five out of nine publishers passed on it too. Luckily, all you need is one agent and one publisher to like your story. Keep writing and don’t give up!
Hunted, book six of the Iron Druid Chronicles, will be out June 25. Kevin is now working on a Star Wars novel set in the Classic era. His nerd dreams have come true. He’s also working on book seven of IDC.
He still collects comic books.

Book Review: Furious Lust by Elise Hepner

at 5/26/2013 06:02:00 PM 0 comments

One mistake can change a life—let alone an eternity.
Tisiphone’s a revenge demon working for Hades in the Underworld torturing damned souls. When she escapes for three days under the sun with a human male, her leash is pulled tight. Tisiphone’s banished from the Underworld to Earth and stripped of her demonic powers. But that’s not what drives her horrendous nightmares.
Cithaeron’s human life was dedicated to revenge, until a demon walked into it. The wickedly intense, sensually destructive Tisiphone takes over his life with probing questions and haunting caresses. It’s over in a blink. After centuries of torture in Limbo, Hades brings him back for a judgment call that could change their intertwined lives—dead or alive.
Their future is in their past. Their lust can burn each other to the ground. But they’ve got to learn to work together or they’ll both go to Hell for good.

After a hard week of exams I was glad for the long weekend and looked forward to reading this book. I generally love books involving the old Greek and Roman gods, especially when the author puts a different spin on the old myths. Elise Hepner is one of those authors. Tisiphone is the heroine of the story. She's a dominatrix which kinda works out pretty well for her, given her previous occupation as a revenge demon. So the story goes girl meets guy, Cithaeron and they have a good time with each other until she kills him....not very romantic am I right? Shifted to present day, Tisiphone (who is now mortal) can't help but feel like she's been watched and stalked. And who's the stalker? None other than Cithaeron, who's now a demon. "Aeron" is back and the sexual tension was the same as it always was.

Aeron is tasked to bring Tisiphone to her 5 year hearing in front of a board of cruel demigods. I have to say I did get a little disgusted and shocked by her form of extended punishment. I know this is a BDSM related book, but my god! Every five years she had to go through that? This time it's a little different. The board of cruel a$$holes tied Tisiphone and Aeron's spirits together and restore Tisiphone to her former demon glory, but of course they did it in the most painful way possible. From here on out, Aeron and Tisiphone explore what their relationship could have been all those years ago. They try to build a rocky friendship that complete blows up and entirely becomes one of sexual pleasure, though their turbulent feelings for each other do lead them to a more stable relationship.

Of course this wouldn't be worth a read if there wasn't some drama and tragedy involved. And who do you think is behind it all? I am glad that through everything, Tisiphone and Aeron finally get their HEA. Overall, this book was well written, the characters were memorable, and the sexual tension was (dare I say) orgasmic. ;) I really hope Elise writes more books in this new world of hers. I generally don't go towards BDSM related books but I absolutely loved this book! This book gets......
4 stars!!!!!

Book Review/Birthday Bash Post: Medusa, A Love Story by Sasha Summers

at 5/01/2013 11:54:00 AM 1 comments

It's said love can change a person. Medusa wasn't always a monster...
Medusa is ruled by duty, to her Titan father and the Goddess Athena. She's no room for the tenderness her warrior guard, Ariston, stirs. When Olympus frees her from service, her heart leads her into the arms of the guard she loves... and curses her as the creature with serpent locks.
Ariston goes to war with a full heart... and dreadful foreboding. He learns too late of the danger Medusa faces, alone, and a Persian blade sends him into the Underworld. But death, curses, nor the wrath of the Gods will keep him from returning to her.
Poseidon will use Greece's war to get what he wants: Medusa. He does not care that she belongs to another. He does not care that she will be damned. He is a God, an Olympian, and she will be his.

This book was certainly a new take on the Greek myths. I have always loved reading about old Greek and Roman myths. My absolute favorite Goddess would be Artemis (CALM down, Dark Hunters) and favorite God would be Hermes. These choices do not  reflect the way they are portrayed in this book. So this book is about Medusa who was not always the fearsome monster with snakes for hair. She was once a woman who fell in love and suffered for it. Everything starts with prologue that ties into the story of Perseus. As you myth buffs may now, Perseus was a warrior and became a hero by killing Medusa and used her head as a weapon. The one major thing I noticed in this book was how human everyone appeared to be, even the Gods. I am reminded of something my philosophy teacher once said during a lecture, "We were nothing, but playthings for the Gods...to pass the time. We are their possessions, even in death." It kinda stuck with me because it made me think about how the religious worship a God or Gods and how their actions are dictated by rules and fear of punishment.

In Medusa, A Love Story, the book is just that. A story about a girl who falls in love with a man and is punished for it. The Gods involved are portrayed like a mob family. They all have things up their sleeves and if they see something they like they will stop at nothing to get it. I cried during the second portion of the book. I sympathized with the lovers and felt the pain of loss and the anger at the injustice of it all. All Medusa wanted was to be with Ariston and he with her. The Gods interfered and tore them apart, but not because they were an ill-fated couple; it was because they dared to go against the wishes of the Gods and for that grievous crime, one is cursed with snakes and one is cursed with death.

There was one character that I liked besides Medusa and that character is Hades. Now I know what you're about to say. Hades? Why him? In all fairness, he isn't a bad God, if anything he's the most sympathetic of the bunch. He kept watch over Medusa and Ariston, despite having a reputation for not getting involved in Olympus business. Whenever I think of Hades, I think back to the Disney version and that cracks me up. Sasha goes on to write the story of Hades and Persephone in the next book in the Loves of Olympus series and I hope it's with a lot more romancing! Myths portray their courtship, or lack there of, as an abduction and entrapment. >.> Yup, that needs a new spin ASAP. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good underdog romance with a  dash of divine intervention. I give this book a rating of....
5 stars!!!!

Blog Tour Post: Bound by Elisabeth Naughton

at 4/01/2013 01:01:00 PM 7 comments

TITUS—To most his gift seems like a blessing, but for him it’s a curse the other Eternal Guardians—those who protect the mortal realm from threats of the Underworld—seek to exploit. One he would gladly trade for the chance to be free…
Obsessed. Her touch is like a drug. From the moment he met her, Titus knew she was different. Even dangerous. Yet though his guardian brethren are convinced Natasa is working for Hades, Titus can’t stop thinking about her. Can’t stop fantasizing about her. Can’t stop craving the one thing he knows could lead to the downfall of his world.
Possessed. Faced with stopping Natasa or joining in her quest, Titus falls to temptation and is thrust into a world of lust, deception, and deadly treachery designed by the gods. Her touch—only hers—frees him from his bonds, but desire may just condemn him. Because before the end he’ll have to decide which is more important: duty and honor to those he took an oath to defend, or a woman who could very well be the biggest curse to them all.

Ahoy there peeps! We have a special post today! Today we are hosting the lovely Elisabeth Naughton and her newly released book, Bound. I heard about Elisabeth from another blogger buddy (Viviana, Enchantress of Books) and once I read the first book in the Eternal Guardians series, I was hooked and this book was no different.

This volume focuses on Titus, Argonaut warrior, who can hear other people's thoughts and see memories through touch. And his lucky lady? A tough, strong, resourceful young woman, who's fate is either destined for great destruction or the key to the Gods' master plans.

I love the chemistry between the Titus and Natasa. The playful banter between these two helped develop their relationship into a stable give-and-take, instead of a one sided "I'm the man, you're the woman" roles. For the first time, Titus found someone who's touch doesn't hurt him and Natasa found someone she can generally depend on.

Another thing I love about Elisabeth's books are the subplots. While the main couples' story develops throughout the book, the other Guardians and their mates' side stories are also continued to show the strains of royal life, the complications of soulmates, and the evil plans of the Gods.

I give this book a (drumroll).....
5 stars!!!!!

I loved this book. It's a great addition to the Eternal Guardians series. The characters are strong with a bit of vulnerabilities that make them  more relate-able. I highly recommend this book, so all of you Elissabeth Naughton fans, this book is another homerun. And if you're not a fan or haven't read Elisabeth Naughton before, I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Now as a special bonus, this blog tour is hosting a giveaway as pictured below...
which includes....

~ Character Trading Cards

About the Author:

I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time.

Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories.

My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.
