Eclipsing Apollo
(Loves of Olympus Series, Bk  #3)
by Sasha Summers

Apollo is fond of many things. Music, poetry, physical prowess, truth, and love. The Pythian Games are in his honor and he attends, as a mere mortal, to enjoy the competition… and the women. Meeting the fair Coronis offers him his greatest delight. Her strength, her fearlessness, and her beauty clasp his heart with an irrevocable hold. But she wants none of him.

Coronis’ duty is to marry, but she yearns for so much more. She is a fierce competitor, a hunter, skilled in strategy and reason. Those that would court her lack both the mind and the body to rival hers - she will settle for no less. As a mortal, Apollo was both infuriating and tempting. But Apollo the Olympian is terrifying. She fears giving him her heart might destroy her soul.

Demeter’s need for revenge pits Olympian against Olympian, forcing Apollo into a darkness the God of Light must fight if he ever hopes to see his Coronis again.

He turned, readying his bow as he’d done a thousand times
before. It was all too easy to miscalculate, to skew his arrow a hairsbreadth
from the mark. He released the arrow, stunned when it hit the target.
The crowd reacted instantly, applause and cheers breaking
the silence.
He looked at Coronis, stunned by the slight smile on her
face. “Why do you smile?”
“Father says there’s never been more than four rounds.”
Her smile grew. “We shall make history.”
He smiled in response. “Winning is no longer important?”
“Winning is everything,” she argued, incredulous. “Surely
you see that?”
In that moment she was not just a woman. No, she was a
competitor. An adversary to respect. He nodded, puzzling over the affect this
woman had upon him.
Once the field was cleared and the targets were place, a
silence fell upon the spectators. He would lead this time. The target was
miniscule, an easy miss…
Coronis scarce waited for his arrow to fly before
releasing hers.
The crowd waited as the judges ran the length of the
field to the targets.
From the corner of his eye he watched her. She stared at
the ground, her hands clasping her bow as she shifted from foot to foot.
When the judges pulled her arrow from the target and held
it high, the crowd erupted with cheers and applause—to be drowned out by
rolling thunder. Rain fell down in torrents, lightning split the sky in quick
succession, sending all in the stands in search of shelter. He would have
followed the others, but she stood, staring up at the sky, smiling. So he
remained at her side.
He would touch her, pull her against him, and hold her.
Instead, he stepped closer and took her hand in his. Only then did she look at
him.
Lightning pierced the sky, striking a great tree at the
edge of the field. He’d scarce heard the crackle and snap of its mighty trunk
before the air around them whistled and the tree began to fall. He did not
think, but pulled her tightly against him, sheltering her with his body. When
the ground shook with the force of the fall, he held her still. Her back was
pressed against his chest, her scent tickling his nose, while his arm cradled
her waist. His hold eased once he knew she was safe, but the feel of her curves
against him was a heady thing. If not for the chill of her wet tunic on his
skin, he would have held her until she forced him to release her.
He swallowed, taking in the tree. If he’d not pulled her
aside, Coronis would be dead—pinned beneath the tree. His chest felt heavy,
weighted by a most crushing pressure. The feel of her, trembling against him,
was the greatest comfort. He drew in a deep breath, running his hands along her
arms. “You are cold,” he murmured, his nose brushing her ear.
She shivered, pulling from his embrace. She glanced at
the tree, the realization of what might have happened clear upon her pale
features. She stared up at him with a face so conflicted he would draw her
close once more. Instead she ran from him, toward the safety of her father’s
house.
I loved Greek and Roman mythology when I was a kid. All of the tragic events that occurred in one's life could be explained by pissing off the wrong God. I have read the previous books in this series and what I liked most was the retelling of famous tragedies and the trials that lead to their legend. This book was no different. The God in question is Apollo and mortal lady love Coronis. This is the third book in the series, which I highly recommend that you read in order; it just flows better that way. While on his way to participate in the Pythian Games (as one does when a tournament is held in your honor), he comes across Coronis, a huntress of the first water and he's capitivated by her beauty and skill and taken aback by her sharp wit and tongue. As you would guess, Greek gods have nothing better to do than to pit one God against the others and to constantly undermine one another. The ending was somewhat what I expected and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Book Review: Moon's Flower by Marie Hall

Once upon a time, long, long ago a flower fairy looked up to the sky and dared to fall in love with the Man in the Moon…

I have to say that I really liked this book. It starts off a group of fairies listening to Danika, a story-telling fairy. She begins telling them the story of the Man in the Moon. The Man in the Moon, of course, is named Jericho and is swallowed in darkness. How did he get to be like this? He had relations with Siria, the radiant woman of the Sun. Jericho, then became the Man in the Moon after this and will be trapped in Kingdom for the rest of his life. He can only leave the Moon for a couple of days a month, otherwise he's always in the sky. It's a lonely existence with the daily short run in with Siria, when the moon and the sun share the sky. Siria made it easy to hate her for trapping Jericho into being her counterpart, but part of me recognizes her need to be loved, though it should be said that nothing went according for plan for her. Jericho wants his freedom and envies those he watches below. One day, he sees a flower fairy named Calanthe and from the moment he sees her, he is lost. I absolutely enjoyed this book though it would have been better if I had read the series from book one to this one, which is book six.

Moon's Flower (Kingdom Series, Book 6)

Once upon a time, long, long ago a flower fairy looked up to the sky and dared to fall in love with the Man in the Moon…

badge-addtogoodreads
excerpt
Jericho strode to the balustrade, gripping the gray stones with white knuckled intensity as he gazed downward through the canvas of darkness and pin bursts of stars, peering into the magical realm beneath him.

Moonglow lit his corner of the castle. Once, long ago, he’d been a shepherd riding the rugged and peaked plains of sheep country. Alive and normal. But everything changed the day he’d found her.

The beautifully stunning woman draped in a glowing gown of buttery gold.

He’d stopped in a sheltered grove to give his horse—Midnight—a chance to drink. That’s when he’d seen the blond haired goddess, she’d been dipping her toes in the pond. At the sight of her bare feet and the gown that had fitted her like second skin, he’d fallen immediately under her spell.

Her big, luminous tawny eyes had captivated him. The rosebud lips and high, slashing cheekbones. The slender column of her throat, every inch of her was built for seduction. Proper women of his day didn’t dress like her. Didn’t let the long length of their curls tumble down around the head and shoulders, or wear a diaphanous gown that hid nothing of the curves beneath.

If he’d been smart, he’d have known something wasn’t right about the woman in gold. But as was often the case with him back then, it’d merely taken the sight of a beautiful woman to make him forget every bit of common sense he’d ever possessed.

She’d opened her arms out to him and they’d slept together. He hadn’t known he’d be sealing his doom, hadn’t known that sleeping with the sun would burn… hadn’t known that things like fairy tales could actually exist.

Sighing, he peered into the endless expanse of sky, heart longing to see the bejeweled beauty of land.

Darkness, it belonged to him now. He could never walk the daylight hours. What Siria hadn’t told him when she’d taken him into her body was that she’d marked him, turned him into a man of myth and legend.

That every five hundred years a new man would be chosen. Jericho had gone from being a humble shepherd, to being the Man in the Moon. Locked away forever in this part of the castle. Only allowed to walk the land of Kingdom on the thirtieth day of the month, during the turning of the lunar cycle.

Only once a month could his feet touch land.

Book Review: Furious Lust by Elise Hepner

at 5/26/2013 06:02:00 PM 0 comments

One mistake can change a life—let alone an eternity.
Tisiphone’s a revenge demon working for Hades in the Underworld torturing damned souls. When she escapes for three days under the sun with a human male, her leash is pulled tight. Tisiphone’s banished from the Underworld to Earth and stripped of her demonic powers. But that’s not what drives her horrendous nightmares.
Cithaeron’s human life was dedicated to revenge, until a demon walked into it. The wickedly intense, sensually destructive Tisiphone takes over his life with probing questions and haunting caresses. It’s over in a blink. After centuries of torture in Limbo, Hades brings him back for a judgment call that could change their intertwined lives—dead or alive.
Their future is in their past. Their lust can burn each other to the ground. But they’ve got to learn to work together or they’ll both go to Hell for good.

After a hard week of exams I was glad for the long weekend and looked forward to reading this book. I generally love books involving the old Greek and Roman gods, especially when the author puts a different spin on the old myths. Elise Hepner is one of those authors. Tisiphone is the heroine of the story. She's a dominatrix which kinda works out pretty well for her, given her previous occupation as a revenge demon. So the story goes girl meets guy, Cithaeron and they have a good time with each other until she kills him....not very romantic am I right? Shifted to present day, Tisiphone (who is now mortal) can't help but feel like she's been watched and stalked. And who's the stalker? None other than Cithaeron, who's now a demon. "Aeron" is back and the sexual tension was the same as it always was.

Aeron is tasked to bring Tisiphone to her 5 year hearing in front of a board of cruel demigods. I have to say I did get a little disgusted and shocked by her form of extended punishment. I know this is a BDSM related book, but my god! Every five years she had to go through that? This time it's a little different. The board of cruel a$$holes tied Tisiphone and Aeron's spirits together and restore Tisiphone to her former demon glory, but of course they did it in the most painful way possible. From here on out, Aeron and Tisiphone explore what their relationship could have been all those years ago. They try to build a rocky friendship that complete blows up and entirely becomes one of sexual pleasure, though their turbulent feelings for each other do lead them to a more stable relationship.

Of course this wouldn't be worth a read if there wasn't some drama and tragedy involved. And who do you think is behind it all? I am glad that through everything, Tisiphone and Aeron finally get their HEA. Overall, this book was well written, the characters were memorable, and the sexual tension was (dare I say) orgasmic. ;) I really hope Elise writes more books in this new world of hers. I generally don't go towards BDSM related books but I absolutely loved this book! This book gets......

Book Review/Birthday Bash Post: Medusa, A Love Story by Sasha Summers

at 5/01/2013 11:54:00 AM 1 comments

It's said love can change a person. Medusa wasn't always a monster...
Medusa is ruled by duty, to her Titan father and the Goddess Athena. She's no room for the tenderness her warrior guard, Ariston, stirs. When Olympus frees her from service, her heart leads her into the arms of the guard she loves... and curses her as the creature with serpent locks.
Ariston goes to war with a full heart... and dreadful foreboding. He learns too late of the danger Medusa faces, alone, and a Persian blade sends him into the Underworld. But death, curses, nor the wrath of the Gods will keep him from returning to her.
Poseidon will use Greece's war to get what he wants: Medusa. He does not care that she belongs to another. He does not care that she will be damned. He is a God, an Olympian, and she will be his.

This book was certainly a new take on the Greek myths. I have always loved reading about old Greek and Roman myths. My absolute favorite Goddess would be Artemis (CALM down, Dark Hunters) and favorite God would be Hermes. These choices do not  reflect the way they are portrayed in this book. So this book is about Medusa who was not always the fearsome monster with snakes for hair. She was once a woman who fell in love and suffered for it. Everything starts with prologue that ties into the story of Perseus. As you myth buffs may now, Perseus was a warrior and became a hero by killing Medusa and used her head as a weapon. The one major thing I noticed in this book was how human everyone appeared to be, even the Gods. I am reminded of something my philosophy teacher once said during a lecture, "We were nothing, but playthings for the Gods...to pass the time. We are their possessions, even in death." It kinda stuck with me because it made me think about how the religious worship a God or Gods and how their actions are dictated by rules and fear of punishment.

In Medusa, A Love Story, the book is just that. A story about a girl who falls in love with a man and is punished for it. The Gods involved are portrayed like a mob family. They all have things up their sleeves and if they see something they like they will stop at nothing to get it. I cried during the second portion of the book. I sympathized with the lovers and felt the pain of loss and the anger at the injustice of it all. All Medusa wanted was to be with Ariston and he with her. The Gods interfered and tore them apart, but not because they were an ill-fated couple; it was because they dared to go against the wishes of the Gods and for that grievous crime, one is cursed with snakes and one is cursed with death.

There was one character that I liked besides Medusa and that character is Hades. Now I know what you're about to say. Hades? Why him? In all fairness, he isn't a bad God, if anything he's the most sympathetic of the bunch. He kept watch over Medusa and Ariston, despite having a reputation for not getting involved in Olympus business. Whenever I think of Hades, I think back to the Disney version and that cracks me up. Sasha goes on to write the story of Hades and Persephone in the next book in the Loves of Olympus series and I hope it's with a lot more romancing! Myths portray their courtship, or lack there of, as an abduction and entrapment. >.> Yup, that needs a new spin ASAP. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good underdog romance with a  dash of divine intervention. I give this book a rating of....
5 stars!!!!

Blog Tour Post: Bound by Elisabeth Naughton

at 4/01/2013 01:01:00 PM 7 comments

TITUS—To most his gift seems like a blessing, but for him it’s a curse the other Eternal Guardians—those who protect the mortal realm from threats of the Underworld—seek to exploit. One he would gladly trade for the chance to be free…
Obsessed. Her touch is like a drug. From the moment he met her, Titus knew she was different. Even dangerous. Yet though his guardian brethren are convinced Natasa is working for Hades, Titus can’t stop thinking about her. Can’t stop fantasizing about her. Can’t stop craving the one thing he knows could lead to the downfall of his world.
Possessed. Faced with stopping Natasa or joining in her quest, Titus falls to temptation and is thrust into a world of lust, deception, and deadly treachery designed by the gods. Her touch—only hers—frees him from his bonds, but desire may just condemn him. Because before the end he’ll have to decide which is more important: duty and honor to those he took an oath to defend, or a woman who could very well be the biggest curse to them all.

Ahoy there peeps! We have a special post today! Today we are hosting the lovely Elisabeth Naughton and her newly released book, Bound. I heard about Elisabeth from another blogger buddy (Viviana, Enchantress of Books) and once I read the first book in the Eternal Guardians series, I was hooked and this book was no different.

This volume focuses on Titus, Argonaut warrior, who can hear other people's thoughts and see memories through touch. And his lucky lady? A tough, strong, resourceful young woman, who's fate is either destined for great destruction or the key to the Gods' master plans.

I love the chemistry between the Titus and Natasa. The playful banter between these two helped develop their relationship into a stable give-and-take, instead of a one sided "I'm the man, you're the woman" roles. For the first time, Titus found someone who's touch doesn't hurt him and Natasa found someone she can generally depend on.

Another thing I love about Elisabeth's books are the subplots. While the main couples' story develops throughout the book, the other Guardians and their mates' side stories are also continued to show the strains of royal life, the complications of soulmates, and the evil plans of the Gods.

I give this book a (drumroll).....
5 stars!!!!!

I loved this book. It's a great addition to the Eternal Guardians series. The characters are strong with a bit of vulnerabilities that make them  more relate-able. I highly recommend this book, so all of you Elissabeth Naughton fans, this book is another homerun. And if you're not a fan or haven't read Elisabeth Naughton before, I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Now as a special bonus, this blog tour is hosting a giveaway as pictured below...
which includes....

~ 1 eBook copy of Bound
~ Character Trading Cards
~ 1 Eternal Guardian Bookmarker
~ 1 Eternal Guardian Drink Coaster

About the Author:

I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time.

Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories.

My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.
