I absolutely adore the Dangerous Damsels series. It's the perfect mix of well-timed humor, witty banter, romance, action and witchy shenanigans. Not to mention, Ms. Holton included all of my favorite tropes. We got a fake wedding, close proximity, and enemies (more like rivals) to lovers. Our leading lady is Alice, lady's maid by day and intelligence operative by night. Known as Agent A, Alice works for the Agency of Undercover Note Takers, and she has been tasked to work together with her greatest rival, Agent B a.k.a. Daniel Bixby, a.k.a. former butler to the rogue pirate Rotten O'Riley. Their mission? Go undercover as a married couple, infiltrate a pirate house party and thwart an assassination attempt. Easy peasy, right? Everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong. The only thing that does work and grow stronger is their attraction for each other. We see cameos from the previous books' characters, which was a delight. The character development throughout the book was top-notch and the plot was chaotic at best (which is a compliment when dealing with pirates and aristocratic ladies). Overall, it was an enjoyable read.
