With over 1.3 million copies of her books sold, Kristen Proby has become well-known for her strong, witty characters and unforgettable love stories. Following the success of Proby’s Fusion series, we are thrilled to introduce the new Romancing Manhattan series, starting with All the Way. Readers will escape to Martha’s Vineyard with the spirited London Watson and her captivating love interest Finn Cavanaugh as they navigate their way through love, grief, and family.

Finn Cavanaugh is known for being a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom. He owns a successful law firm with his brother and brother-in-law in Manhattan. On the rare occasion that he has down time, he spends it at his home in Martha’s Vineyard. But when Finn’s troubled niece goes to stay with him for the summer, he’s reluctant to take time off from work. That is, until he meets his beautiful new neighbor, London.
London Watson is a Tony Award winning actress on Broadway. When tragedy strikes her family, leaving her alone and injured, she flees Manhattan. Hoping she can figure out how to pick up the pieces of her life, London is convinced that she’ll never be able to return to the stage. But when she meets the charming young girl next door and her sexy uncle, they soon lure London out of her shell as she finally begins to heal from the wounds of her past.

But when London feels confident enough to return to the spotlight, she’s dealt another devastating blow. Will the newfound love between London and Finn be enough to conquer all? Or will it be over before it has a chance to grow?

*Disclaimer: I received an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review*

I remember the days when Kristen Proby was starting out as an indie author. I met her a few times at indie author signing events. She's super sweet and as her stories progressed, I always find myself picking up one of her books whenever I need a break from Young Adult fiction.

All the Way is the start of the Romancing Manhattan series and a pretty good start to a new series. London Watson is an actress on Broadway who recently suffered a devastating blow to her family and her shiny career. While recuperating in Martha's Vineyard, she runs into Finn Cavanaugh, her parents' sexy lawyer, and his niece. Sparks and an instant attraction between the two is obvious. However, their relationship starts off rocky and continues to be so.

Overall, it was a good read. Plot was good with even amounts of foreshadowing that ultimately lead to a decent ending. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

**Disclaimer: I received a review copy from Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in exchange for a honest review**

As a hardcore Chicagoland fan, I was heartbroken when the series came to an end. The ending was perfect and did justice to all of Chloe's hard work. It also left enough material for Wild Hunger to start. Wild Hunger starts with Elisa, daughter of Ethan Sullivan, Master of Cadogan House and Merit, Sentinel of Cadogan House. There is a time skip, since this is Elisa's story. Elisa just finished studying abroad at École Dumas, Europe's only university for supernaturals. She's currently "interning/working security" with Maison Dumas, one of the most prestigious vampire Houses in Europe. The book start with Elisa and her European friends packing up to escort the leaders of Maison Dumas (and other Houses) to a peace summit in Chicago. However, right out of the gate, we get to see Elisa in action. While in Europe, she also trained as a swordswoman and it definitely shows when a little mayhem breaks out in the streets of Paris.

After this ordeal, Elisa and company head to Chicago for the summit. Past characters from the original Chicagoland series do make an appearance or are mentioned so that we know what they've been up to. As you would think, not everyone is interested in peace talks. Trouble breaks out, an assassination occurs, and all hell breaks loose. This puts Elisa in a precarious position. Her loyalty to Maison Dumas and to Cadogan House will be tested. Of course, we do get to see the next generation of Chicagoland sups, like Connor Keene (yum). He's got his own problems with the Pack to deal with.  I really liked the angle Chloe took with Wild Hunger. While we do see some of our favorite characters, this is Elisa's book and we do get to see her shine, stand on her own merits, and see her as an individual; not just as the daughter of the Master and Sentinel of Cadogan House. Overall, I enjoyed this book. There were a few subplots that I was not expecting and some subplots that I totally saw coming, but made me deliriously giddy. I am looking forward to the sequel!

Blog Tour Book Review: To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

at 3/17/2018 01:53:00 AM 0 comments

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

Some spoilers abound! You have been warned.

WOW! This book blew me away. Keep in mind that this is not your typical sea creature-prince love story. At the beginning, I was expecting a predictable love story full of strife and plot armor, but nope! There are certainly elements from the Little Mermaid, but with a twist. Princess Lira is a bloodthirsty siren with sharp claws and she's gunning for the position of heir to the Sea Queen. The Sea Queen is her mother, but I'm saying 'mother' loosely here. She's a stone-cold, manipulative bully who rules the sirens through fear and pain. The emotional, mental and psychological trauma that Lira goes through is immense and heartbreaking. All the same, Lira still wants her mother's approval and will do anything to get it. This is where the hearts of princes comes in. From what I know of mythology, sirens were similar to mermaids and had voices that would enchant sailors to their locations, to crash and die. Super romantic, amirite? In this particular world, sirens were created by the Goddess Keto and there was havoc. Humans versus sirens. Sirens would enchant sailors or princes to come close enough for them to rip out their hearts. Literally, stealing the hearts of men. Some background: stolen hearts give the siren who took them power, especially the hearts of princes.

Like the Sea Queen, Lira is a ruthless killing machine. She has killed 17 princes and took their hearts as a source of power. Unlike her mother, Lira has slowly developed a fan base of sorts. Lira is close the age of ascension and Mommy Dearest is having none of that. Finding fault with Lira's recent "transgressions," she is sentenced to a human-like existence as punishment. As if being stripped of her very identity and power wasn't punishment enough, Lira is recused at sea by none other than the famed "Siren Killer," Prince Elian. Elian has a personal grudge against sirens and certainly has no qualms hunting them down. When Elian hears of an ancient power source that could potentially destroy all sirens in existence, he will stop at nothing to attain this power.

A steady plot and character development for the main characters, as well as the secondary cast members. The world-building and mish-mash of historical locations gives readers a vibrant picture of what Elian and Lira see. I felt the ending was final enough, though I would welcome a sequel if Alexandra Christo wrote one. Overall, I did enjoy reading this book.

Hi, I’m Alexandra! I’m a twenty-something writer from England who likes baking, marathoning Korean dramas, and writing about characters with questionable morals.
My books are mostly YA, mostly fantasy, and mostly show that I let my imagination run a little too wild.
My debut novel To Kill a Kingdom is a story about killer sirens and killer pirates, who team up and try very hard not to kill each other. If you like Disney’s Little Mermaid, I hope I haven’t destroyed your childhood memories of it.

ARC Book Review: Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs

BURN BRIGHT
(Alpha and Omega #5)
By Patricia Briggs
Ace Hardcover
$27.00 / 320 pages
March 6, 2018

In her bestselling Alpha and Omega series, Patricia Briggs “spins tales of werewolves, coyote shifters, and magic and, my, does she do it well” (USATODAY.com). Now mated werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham face a threat like no other–one that lurks too close to home…

They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok’s pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf–but can’t stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills–his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker–to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn…

I'm a long-time Patricia Briggs fan and I have been waiting for the next Alpha and Omega book to come out. This book did not disappoint. The main premise of the book surrounds the mysterious wildlings, members of Bran's pack, but at the same time too wild to be with others of the pack. In the timeline of events, this book/events take place during the second half of Silence Fallen, the tenth Mercy Thompson book. Charles and Anna (plus everybody else) are on their own when something goes wrong with one of the wildlings. Charles being the powerhouse that he is, goes to investigate with Anna. Apparently the pack's location isn't so secret anymore. There are strangers walking through the Marrok's territory. Foiling an attempted abduction, a mystery unfolds and a plot of revenge unfolds as Charles and Anna try to find the traitor in their midst, before anyone else gets hurt. In this book we get more back stories to add to each of the top tier members of the pack (i.e. The Moor, Leah, etc.). Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

Excerpt

Joe studied her. “I asked you once before, but now I’m going to ask you again. Is there something going
on between you two?”
She tossed up her hands. “Why do you both keep asking me that about each other?”
His eyes narrowed. “I thought nothing was going on.”
“And before today, I could’ve passed a lie detector test on that,” she said.
“What happened today?”
She paused. Not because she had anything to be ashamed of, but because she wasn’t quite sure what
had happened.
“Kylie.”
She sighed. “It’s nothing.”
“Try again,” Joe said and gave her the very male universal go on gesture.
She rolled her eyes. “Fine. He . . . finally made a move on me.”
Joe didn’t budge. Not a blink, not a muscle twitch, nothing, but she could’ve popped corn off the electric tension coming off him.
“Describe ‘made a move,’ ” he finally said.
She crossed her arms. “And again, how is this relevant to my case?”
He just gave her that careful stare again and she thought wow, those eyes of his should be registered as a lethal weapon, because she found herself opening her mouth and spilling her guts. “He kissed me.”
“He kissed you.”
“Yeah,” she said. “Do you know that you often repeat what I say?”
“What kind of a kiss?” he asked.
She was momentarily bewildered. “I don’t know. It was a kiss. A normal kiss. A nice kiss.” She cocked her head at him. “How many kinds of kisses are there?”
He just looked at her for a long moment before coming toward her. He backed her to the wall and pressed his big hands on either side of her head.
“There are many kinds of kisses,” he said.
Her breath had backed up in her throat, where her heart had lodged, pounding wildly. “S-s-such as?”
“Such as this one.” And then he leaned in and covered her mouth with his.
At the touch of Joe’s mouth, Kylie’s brain stopped being capable of rational thought. His tongue gave a knee-weakening stroke against hers and she let out a shockingly needy moan as she clutched at him, fisting her hands in the material of his shirt at his chest. Only when he’d thoroughly plundered and pillaged and left her boneless did he lift his head and
look into her eyes.
“Wow,” she whispered, fully aware she was still holding on to him like he was a lifeline, but the bones in her legs had liquefied. “I mean . . .” She shook her head. “Wow.”
He nodded. “Yeah. So to be clear, that wasn’t ‘a normal kiss’ or even ‘a nice kiss.’ It was a ‘wow’ kiss. Any questions?”
“Just one,” she said softly. “Can I have another?”
Joe didn’t have to be asked twice. His mouth immediately descended again, his fingers sliding into her hair to change the angle of the kiss to suit him. It was a controlled, alpha thing to do, but she had only one thought—nothing about the usually carefully, purposely leashed Joe was in control at the moment.
And she liked it.
She had no idea how long they went at it because she was in absolute heaven. Who knew that the man could use his preferred silent mode to communicate in a way that she finally approved of?
Only when she was completely breathless and about to strip him down to his birthday suit did she manage to pull back.
“Any more questions?” he asked, also a little bit breathless, which was more than slightly gratifying. Dumbly, she shook her head. His eyes softened and he gently he stroked his thumb over her bottom lip. “And FYI? Gib’s an idiot.”

Whew! This book was HOT!! While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite Avon authors and I love her books. The Heartbreaker Bay series is a favorite. Why? All of the female characters are ladies I'd like to have drinks with and all of the male characters I want to sigh over. This time around, we focus on Kylie Masters and Joe Malone. For those of you who read the previous book, you know that K & J shared a steamy kiss in an alley (not the best location, but it happened). And then.....he doesn't call. It's not because they don't know where they can find each other. Their list of mutual friends overlap so much it would give John Venn heart palpitations. Back to the story, Kylie has had a rough go at life. Her parents had her when they were in the late teens/early twenties; obvious not equipped to raise a baby. "Dad" abandoned them without a second glance and "mom" was selfish to think of anyone else's well-being except for hers. Luckily, Kylie's grandpa took her in and raised her. Fast forward, Kylie is working as a woodcarver and her carved penguin keychain goes missing. She's adamant that it was stolen from her. She enlists Joe to help her find her carved penguin. Why is a little keychain so important? It was the last item her grandpa carved before he passed. Did that tug your heartstrings? It did? Good. Spending time with Joe was the last thing Kylie wanted to do, but she desparately wants her keychain back; especially when someone sends her Polaroids of her keychain in scenes of peril. As tension between J & K grow, the hunt for the keychain and the sociopath goes on.
I was definitely picking up some sexual tension from another pair of characters. I usually take it as confirmation that they are a future pairing (and I can't wait!). Overall, I liked this book. The book progressed nicely and had a nice thriller vibe going on for some parts of the book.

 UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION by Katee Robert
Part of the O’Malleys series
 Forever | November 28, 2017 | Mass Market: $7.99 | eBook: $5.99

"A worthy addition to a sexy series." -- Publishers Weekly

Scandal. Wealth. Power. Seduction. Welcome to the world of the O'Malleys.

Ex-cop Charlotte Finch used to think there was a clear line between right and wrong. Then her fellow officers betrayed her, and the world is no longer so black and white. Especially when it's Aiden O'Malley, one of the most dangerous men in Boston, who offers her a chance for justice. The only catch: she'll have to pretend to be his fiancée for his plan to work.

Aiden can't afford to let anyone see the man behind the mask. To run the O'Malley empire, he has to be cool and controlled at all times. But the moment he meets Charlie, they're playing with fire. Her slightest touch is enough to send him over the edge. At first their "engagement" was a way to eliminate his enemies. Now he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe-- even if he has to destroy his own family to do it.

EXCERPT
“Come on.” Aidan stepped back and took her hand. “I have something to show you.”
He led the way up the back stairs and through a door she hadn’t explored yet. Charlie’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of candles flickering on a table laid out with a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a whole spread of Chinese takeout.
She let go of his hand and wandered over to peer into the boxes. “How did you know that crispy pork belly was my favorite?” Just like that, the pieces clicked together. She snapped her fingers. “You had your sister feel me out?” She’d thought Kiera had been asking about her favorite food so they could pick a local place next time they ventured out of the house. “Shady. Very shady.”
“I am a mob boss, after all.” He came around the table and poured them both a glass of wine. “I have it on good authority that this cab pairs well with Chinese takeout.”
“How classy of you.” It was like stepping into another realm of existence as she sat down and accepted the glass of wine while he filled two plates. When Aiden had said that he wanted a dinner date with her, she’d assumed that meant dressing to the nines and going out somewhere fancy. She said as much.
He snorted. “Eating out always serves a purpose. Either you’re making a point, or ensuring you’re seen by someone specific, or conducting a business meeting. We’ve been making points and playing parts since we met. I’d like to try something new—having a relaxing conversation. Just me and you, Aiden and Charlie, not the leader of the O’Malley clan and the former-cop-turned-fake-fiancée.”
“Do you think that’s even possible?” Such a short time together, and it was clear they both had a boatload of issues. It was easy enough to ignore when they were banging each other’s brains out or pretending to be something they weren’t, but holding down a conversation without those masks in place? She wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

Because I already like him.

**SPOILERS ARE EVERYWHERE; READ AT YOUR OWN RISK**

Y'all, I can not tell you how long I have been waiting for this book. Since the beginning. THE BEGINNING. I figured that Aiden was playing the bad guy way too hard; I was so convinced that he was up to something. I was practically salivating at the end of the last book with the beginning of Aiden and Charlotte's first interaction. Before we get started, I want to thank the lovely people from Forever for my ARC copy. In exchange for my ARC copy, I give you my honest review. Let's get started.

We first start off with a time lapse. It's been some time since A & C first interacted. We learn a bit more about C and the chain of events that lead up to her being propositioned by Aiden. I really felt bad for her. Charlotte wanted to be just like her dad and earn his approval by doing the same kind of work. I felt that their relationship was already too strained before the incident and too forceful after the fact. It was obvious that her father was too unyielding with the laws, even with his own daughter. Despite her previously stellar work on the police force, no one gives a damn about her now. Except for Aiden, but it's not roses and kittens with this guy. He needs her as a piece in his game of destroying the Russians. He tells Charlotte what he needs from her from the get-go and offers her a chance to get her own brand of justice. If I was in her position, I would take the chance too.

Despite his cold, and disinterested demeanor at times, Aiden's blood runs hot and even hotter around Charlotte. Despite his claims of using her just as a pawn, he wastes no time getting physical with Charlotte. Things are moving steadily alongas planned, until lo and behold, a spector from the past comes and messes up Aiden's meticulous plans for power. I must admit I saw this coming, but I couldn't have guessed who it would be. Side note, now that Aiden's book is complete, I am anxiously waiting for Kiera's book.
