Bloggerversary Book Review + Giveaway: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

at 9/21/2015 12:00:00 AM

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...
A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

My Review
My. Goodness. When I first heard that Leigh was writing a (sorta) spinoff book, I was hyped! This book takes place a few years after the ending of Ruin and Rising, in the city of Ketterdam. The story has a similar feel to Ocean's Eleven. The ringleader is Kaz. A ruthless and calculating thief. His ragtag group of variously skilled people, are on a mission for the ultimate payout.

So let's meet Kaz's crew. His second in command (IMO) is Inej, a Suli acrobat known to many as the Wraith. She has a her own reasons for going on this mission and it's not just about the payout. Then we have Jesper, a sharpshootin', sass-mouthin', gamblin' boy who's more than meets the eye. Next is Wylan, a runaway with a silver spoon in his mouth and the least experienced out of the group. And then we have my favorite two characters. Nina is a Grisha who uses her Heartrender powers to help others in distress. And last but not least, there's Matthias, a Fjerdan soldier hell bent on exacting revenge on the one who falsely accused him.

The entire book moved at a quick pace and we see more of the Grishaverse, location-wise. Kaz has a master plan for everything, but of course something always goes wrong. There's so many twists and turns, you'll be on the edge of your seat! I loved this book from the moment I picked it up. I definitely recommend fans of the Grisha trilogy to read this book as well. I really need the second book to be done already. Good job, Leigh!
5 stars!!!!
