Blog Tour Promo Post: Book One: The Girl (The Sanctum) by Madhuri Blaylock

at 3/27/2014 12:00:00 AM 0 comments

The Sanctum, an all-powerful governing body founded by ten families, entrusted to maintain the peace amongst Magicals and ensure the ignorance of humans, has been corrupted by greed and savagery for generations, but is all Wyatt Clayworth has ever known.

Dev, the hybrid demon prophesied to bring an end to The Sanctum and destroy the world for Magicals and humans alike, is not what Wyatt expected to find when sent out on his latest mission. Believed to be hunting a killing machine, Wyatt finds little more than a broken girl with haunted eyes and a bit of a death wish. Drawn to one another for reasons they cannot begin to explain to themselves, much less anyone else, Wyatt is determined to protect Dev and help her realize her mission to avenge the deaths of her family at the hands of The Sanctum.

Set against the backdrop of New York City, THE GIRL is described as "outstanding, original, complex, deep and intoxicating", a "well written, unique...fast-paced read" that begins as one girl's simple quest for revenge and evolves into a complicated tale of trust, friendship, honor and love.

Without making a sound, Wyatt quickly found the exact place he was seeking. Ducking under some low-hanging tree branches, he ventured into the dark, partially-hidden lair only to be met with a less-than-welcoming blade at his throat. Dev had moved slightly from the hiding place Wyatt left her and although the lower half of her body remained immobile, her arms were functioning just fine, as evidenced by the blade drawing a thin trickle of blood from Wyatt’s neck. One wrong move and she would certainly kill him.

Wyatt slowly brought his hands up to Dev’s, wrapped his fingers around hers and painstakingly maneuvered the blade away from his neck. Only then did he dare make eye contact with her.

“You didn’t really think I was just going to leave you here, did you?” Wyatt asked as he moved to retrieve his blade from Dev.

She wasn’t quite ready to give it up and slashed at Wyatt’s outstretched hand, managing to nick his wrist.

“Crap!” Wyatt sat back on his heels, holding his wrist, and laughed, “fair enough. I deserved that. I should have told you I was coming back, but I couldn’t risk Ryker overhearing or suspecting anything. Trust me, if he thought I was coming back for you he would have spent all night watching me like a hawk. So I left you and walked away and it worked. Now get over it and give me back my blade.”

Despite the laughter in his voice, Wyatt wasn’t playing. He wanted his blade. Her name was Odara and she had been handed down the Clayworth line since the witnessing of The Code of Ten. She was sharper than any Raven blade and fit his hand like a glove. Many had fought and died at his hand thanks to Odara. She was his protector and he wanted her back where she belonged, safely strapped to his hip.

"Kill me," Dev offered the blade at a price.

Wyatt stood up tall and glared down at Dev, clenching his jaw in irritation.

"Kill me," Dev challenged him again, taunting him with her smug stare and grim request.
With blinding speed, Wyatt landed on Dev, knocking her to the ground. Before she even realized what was happening, he locked down her arms and liberated his blade from her grasp. Wyatt hovered above Dev, inches from her face, momentarily tempted to slice her throat and end all of this drama. She couldn’t move a muscle.

"You are in no position to bargain with me," Wyatt angrily whispered, never taking his eyes off of hers. "I am faster and stronger than you. So don’t even think about toying with me like that again.”

Wyatt pushed himself off of her, replaced Odara at his hip and grinned mischievously. “For the record, my blade isn’t worth your life. I just want it back. And I asked nicely the first time.”

Dev remained in her prone position, staring up at Wyatt, uncertain of her next move. She didn’t have the strength necessary to pull herself into a seated position and she definitely was not going to ask for help.

“What?” Wyatt stared down at Dev, knowing she needed help to get up but determined to make her ask for it.

Even in the darkness, Dev could see Wyatt’s eyes sparkling with amusement. He was thoroughly enjoying this little moment between the two of them. His pleasure made her wish she had slit his throat when she had the chance. Rather than requesting his assistance, Dev focused every ounce of her energy on rolling over onto her stomach. If she could do that, she could easily pull herself into a sitting position, Wyatt be damned.

She closed her eyes and focused every fiber of her being on the task at hand but nothing happened. Her body failed to react. It didn't even twitch. The body that had so beautifully saved her from certain death at the hands of those Sanctum fools just hours earlier now couldn't even roll over. She shook with frustration, wanting to scream to the heavens in rage, knowing such action was futile and beneath her. So she took a calming breath, opened her eyes and glared at Wyatt.

"Ahhhh, you're back. I was starting to miss your charming scowl," Wyatt bent low and absentmindedly pushed some of Dev’s hair out of her eyes, “was getting worried there for a second."
Dev grabbed his hand in her vice-like grip. She hated him and his snarky comments.

"I realize you don’t like me," Wyatt pulled his hand out of her grasp and gently placed his arms around Dev, helping her to sit, unable to look at her lying helplessly on the ground for another second, "but I'm all you've got so by all means, continue simmering in your hatred for me but do so with the understanding that I'm on your side.

"All this stabbing and cutting nonsense has got to end. If you want to hurt me, just imagine it, okay? Pretend. Don't actually do it. I heal quickly but it still hurts like hell."

"Now we've got to get out of here fast," Wyatt checked his watch, alarmed at how much time had passed since he jumped out of his window, "and you still can’t walk, which means I’m going to have to pick you up again. Whether you’re okay with it or not.”

He leaned back on his heels and waited, for some reason hoping Dev would respond, all the while knowing she would not. Dev listened with keen interest to every word coming out of Wyatt’s mouth. She most certainly didn’t like him, but she had to respect his determination. He fully intended to get her out of this park and to somewhere safe and against her better judgment, a tiny part of her was relieved. It was the same, small part of her that was fiercely drawn to him, like a sickness almost. And it was the part of her she most wanted to destroy.
Dev hardened her resolve, focused on her intense hatred for all things Sanctum and shut down.

For an instant, Wyatt thought he saw a spark in Dev’s eyes and just as quickly, it was gone. At that moment, for reasons unknown to himself, Wyatt resigned himself to a one-sided relationship with her, one completely based upon his will to help her. He stood up and reached for her, praying she didn’t have a blade hidden somewhere, knowing that if she did, this time she would definitely kill him. To his surprise, Dev wrapped her arms around his neck and allowed Wyatt to scoop her up and into his arms, but he thought nothing more of it, knowing full well she was merely using him to further her agenda.

And that was all right.

Huntsman's Prey (Kingdom, #7) by Marie Hall

Genre: Fantasy Romance

Rumors abound in Wonderland, of a dark princess named Chrysalis who bears the Moon's curse. Her beauty is beyond compare, and her madness... even greater than her father's, The Hatter. Death follows wherever she roams, and Danika--fairy godmother of all villains--knows this task is too great for her to handle on her own. She has no choice but to seek out the one they call Huntsman, his mission is simple: Find the creature, and destroy it.

But nothing is ever so simple in Kingdom. The moment the hunter Aeric steps foot in the mad, twisted realm he's enveloped in a reality that is neither wholly true nor fantasy. The key, the Cheshire explains, to ending the madness is for one to become mad themselves. The Huntsman has one chance to figure out the riddle before the beauty destroys them all...

Danika, in human form, paced the length of the Hatter and Alice’s quiet cabin. The two were in the back bedroom, discussing (none too quietly) what to do about their daughter.
Sighing, Danika flitted almost absentmindedly toward the delicious aroma of yeasty baked bread filtering from out of the kitchen. Her stomach growled, Alice’s food was ambrosia and had become her kryptonite.
She’d had no idea what that word meant first time Gerard’s Betty had uttered it, but the adorably geeky nerd had, with great patience, explained the mythos of a man called Superman, who Danika had to admit sounded deliciously scrumptious. Next time she met with Jericho she’d have to ask him to try on a pair of tights, apparently it was the epitome of male masculinity to wear them. At least so far as Betty was concerned, though Danika had a hard time picturing it.
Alice’s crying finally stopped.
Sniffing, Danika wiped her nose and the corners of her eyes. She hated to hear the lass cry, seemed like that was all she did anymore. Ever since Chrysalis ran away Alice had turned into a quiet, sullen woman. The vivacious beauty rarely left her home and Hatter was clearly at the end of his rope. Alice, and now Chrysalis, were the only things holding that poor man’s sanity together.
Without their strength he’d quickly devolve back into a quarter sane male bordering on permanent lunacy. Danika hadn’t wanted to come and share the news of the bloody massacre she’d come across in the woods, but she’d had no choice.
The three of them had to game plan a way to stop this soon before the fairy council took steps to end Chrysa themselves. And whatever method they devised to do it, would be ten times worse than what she hoped to concoct.
The Blue’s hatred of Danika and her boys had grown to legendary proportions, she knew Galeta was just chomping at the bits to dig the dagger in deeper. Hurting Danika through Hatter’s child would definitely do it.
Danika hadn’t shared with the couple her fears of the council yet, mainly because each time she did she felt like more of the villain than Galeta. Watching the pain filtering through Alice’s eyes, the love of a mother for her daughter, it was akin to a physical blow for Danika. Through the years Danika had grown to love the bad five and their mates as if they were her own. Ever since becoming a godmother she’d only ever developed this type of intense bond rarely.
So when they hurt, she hurt.
She’d had every intention of telling Alice and Hatter that the only way to ensure Wonderland’s safety was to put down their daughter. But the moment she’d stepped foot into their home, she knew there had to be another way. Jericho always told her to believe in him, to have more faith in her ability as a godmother, to believe in herself too.
So that’s what she’d do. She’d figure this out, the cat told her to be mad. Well, how did one do that?
By going to the source of course. Together, they must be able to come up with something.

Blog Tour Post: A Reason To Breathe by C.P. Smith

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Tour Organized by: As the Pages Turn

Love at first sight was never so dangerous.
Jack Gunnison has a problem, well, two actually, one is 5'5" and the other...a Killer.
Jennifer Stewart needs a change after losing her husband and sending her daughter off to college.
Moving to the high country of Colorado to restart her life and, follow her dreams, Jenn gets more than she bargained for when she attracts the eye of a killer.
Together, Jack and Jenn must figure out his identity, before he strikes again.
Mature readers only due to erotic content and language.

Excerpt
Jack collapsed onto my chest but held himself up with one arm. His face in my neck, lips kissing and tasting, light nips at my ear as we both recovered from our release.
“Jesus, Baby, can’t remember when I came that hard.”
“I’m not complaining. You’ve got mad skills, Sheriff.” Rising up and looking down at me, he smiled and laughed as he moved from between my legs and then curled me up into his chest. We lay like that for a while as we recovered, then I tipped my head back and asked.
“You wanna stay the night? I’ll make pancakes in the morning.” Jack grinned, kissed my lips and answered.
“Considering I’ll still be buried deep in you when the sun comes up, yeah Babe, I’ll stay for breakfast.”
“What?”
“Not finished with you by a long shot that was just a warm up.”
”Wow.”
“You got that right.” Jack grinned; then his eyes went soft.
“Jesus, you’re somethin’ else.” I liked hearing that. So I told him.
“You’re not so bad yourself, Jack.”
“I thought I was bossy?”
“You’re that as well.”
“And bullheaded.”
“You heard that?”

“Heard the reckless and arrogant part too.” I giggled, and his eyes warmed. I could stare at his warm, rugged face all night, but decided I’d rather kiss him, so I did, and he rewarded me for my forward thinking with his body on me, in me and behind me the rest of the night

Author Q&A with The Consummate Reader

1) Which character did you have the hardest time bringing to life?

The Killer, I had to be careful not to give too much away with their answers and reactions around Jenn. There is a fine line between friendship and obsession with this person.

2) What are some pet peeves that you have while writing?

Not enough hours in the day. When I finally sit down to write I get in the zone, and everything else kinda stops existing for me. With 5 children that can be a problem, so my writing time is cut short. So, yeah, not enough time…or I have to sleep, which is an inconvenience; stupid body requires it!!

3) Do you find yourself reflected in your characters?

Absolutely….I’ve got a smart mouth that gets me in trouble….and I tend to over-think things instead of going with the flow….and I love bears, I have a huge collection.

4) Have you always wanted to be anything else other than an author?

Yes, I was a singer in my youth, and did a bit of acting in a community production, so I’ve always done creative arts in one form or the other….then I had kids and everything was put on hold.

5) How much time did you spend on character profiles (i.e. backstory, history, personality)?

For this book, character history was easy…I’d had Jack in my head for fifteen years and Jenn was my idea of the perfect woman who of course has flaws. You know the ones who are attractive but not models, have a great personality and the minute you meet them you want to be their BFF…Yeah that was Jenn for me, so in a way she was easy to write. Anything I saw as a strength and weakness that was attractive in a woman to me, I put in Jenn.

6) What are some of your inspirations?

My inspirations for writing come from different places. A picture, a song, even a sentence. When I get stuck with a chapter I’ll turn on the TV or go to YouTube and something will hit me and the cogs will start turning again.

7) Who in the writing world are you a big fan of?

Anyone who has the guts to put themselves out there first of all, it’s not easy to bare your soul and have people pick it apart and leave nothing but your bones when they are done. I’ve been reading a long time, so I have a few favorite authors. Jane Austen, Karen Rose, Kristen Ashley, Tami Hoag, Linda Howard, are my top five. Anything those women write is an automatic buy for me. (Of course I know Ms. Austen won’t be writing any more novels, but one can dream.)

8) Do you think you will branch out and write in other genres (i.e. historical fiction)?

I’ll never say never, but I’m a thriller girl through and through. There will always be an element of suspense and danger in my stories. Now, could I do that in 18th century England with a badass Baron? You betcha! So, I guess you could say it’s a possibility!

9) For the steamy scenes between the main characters, where did you get your ideas?

Hmmm, the personality of the characters of course sets the tone, and how verbal they are in expressing themselves. Jack never held back, so he didn’t hold back in the bedroom, or living room, or kitchen. To me, a man who is confident, like Jack is, has no problems using his body to show a woman how he feels or what he is feeling, so I just portray what I think a sexual encounter should be between two people extremely attracted to one and other.

10) As a writer, are there any frustrating aspects that you can live without?

I love the process; I love hearing from people who loved the book and even appreciate critique that is done in a positive way. The hateful negative reviews by people I could really do without. If the review gives me no feedback other than to say all characters should die including the author…yeah, I’d call that frustrating and a little unsettling to be truthful. The other aspect that is frustrating is in order to get your book seen, you have to spend an inordinate amount of time self-promoting, which cuts into your writing time. I would love to see someone who has experience in publishing create a company that does all of this for the indie author. Some of us pay for PA’s, book covers, and editing. It would be nice if there were a company that had all that in-house, but didn’t have a contract stating you had to write so many books per year. Kind of a one-stop shopping. “Package A includes editing, book cover, and promotion.” A girl can dream, right?

Blog Tour Promo Post: Nature's Destiny by Justine Winter

My  life  was  changing,  morphing  into  something  greater  than  I  could  have  anticipated.  I  was becoming  something  I  didn’t  recognise  as  myself  anymore.  A  Werewolf.
I  was  different.
Bitten.
‘Hybrid’  was  what  they  called  me,  and  the  weight  that  rested  against  that  one  word  was crippling.  They  depended  on  me  to  bring  them  safety.  What  made  me  so  special?
Oh,  that’s  right.  My  destiny.
I  was  sucked  into  a  world  I’d  had  no  idea  existed.  Twenty-one  years  as  a  human,  and  this was  what  I  found  out.
My  travelling  plans,  my  writing  degree,  all  of  it  was  gone  within  one  night.  One  evil  night that robbed  my  humanity.
I  wasn’t  completely  sour.  Life  had  been  unfair  a  while  ago,  only  now  I’d  had  something worth  fighting  for  besides  myself.  Something  to  live  for.
I  was  afraid  for  the  others.  I  couldn’t  let  them  down.  I  wouldn’t  let  them  down.
I’d  gone  to  bed  a  human  and  woken  up  a  Werewolf.
A  special  Werewolf.
A  Hybrid.
Buy ME!

Words from Justine!

When  I  create  a  character  it’s  a  little  like  creating  a  recipe  for  a  tasty  meal,  especially  when  I’m  talking  about  the  hunks.  I  mean,  they  have  to  be  the  perfect  balance  of  sweet  and  spicy.  Right?  Here’s  my  recipe  of  top  five  things  I  need  for  an  Alpha  male:

1. Muscles.  Yup,  I  went  with  physical  appearance  as  my  priority.  He  has  to  have  the  most  f-AB-ulous  body.  I’m  talking  rippling  muscles,  pecs  that  you  want  to  run  your  tongue  all over,  and  a  butt  so  pert   you  just  want  to  grab  it.  Yeah,  I  went  there.

2. He  has  to  be  dominant.  A  man  that  knows  what  he  wants  is  sexy,  but  a  man  that  has  total  authority  over  a  large  pack  is  endearing.  It  comes  with  so  much  responsibility  that  it’s  a  strong  characteristic  and  insight  into  who   Riley  is.  And  when  he  commands  the  attention  of  everyone,  oh  boy,  it’s  knicker-wetting  sexy!

3. A  lover  of  family.  Not  only  is  this  guy  leading  a  pack,  he’s  caring  for  them  too.  If  he  doesn’t  love  children  and  grandparents  then  he’s  gonna  get  a  kick  out  the  door  for  bad  leadership.  Seriously.  A  family  man  melts  hearts.  Do  you  feel  gooey  yet?

4. Money.  I  don’t  mean  that  he  has  to  be  so  filthy  rich  that  he  endlessly  showers  everyone  with  lavish  presents,  but  that  he  could.  It’s  his  intelligence  that  keeps  him  grounded,  and  his  big  loving  heart  that  makes  him  think  of  everyone’s   future  within  the  pack.  However,  he’s  still  a  guy.  And  every  guy  with  hot  money  needs  a  super-fast  car.  It’s  like   the  unwritten  rule.  And  if  he  can  handle  the  car’s  body  at  high speed,  you  know  you’re  in  good  hands.

5. Loyal.  He  has  to  be  the  type  of  guy  that  when  he  realizes  how  amazing  you  are,  that’s  it  for  him.  He’ll  follow  you  like  a  puppy  dog  and  protect  you  ‘til  the  day  you  die.  He  also  has  to  be  a  complete  romantic  that  knows  his  way  around  the  bedroom.  Oh,  yeah.  A  perfect   gentleman  by  day,  and  a  raving  sex  machine  by  night.  That’s  my  boy.

Author Bio:

I’ve  always  lived  a  life  based  on  my  imagination,  from  hopeless  dreams  of  romance  to  concocting  alternate  realities  involving  supernaturals.  I’m  completely  fascinated  with  anything  hero-related,  and  often  speculate  which  superpower  I’d  possess.  I  haven’t  settled  on  one  yet.
I  was  born  in   England,  and  currently  reside  in  Wales,  UK.  I  love  to  write,  and  most  days  you’ll  find  me  happily  tapping  away  at  the  computer  whilst  in  my  pyjama-clad  bubble.  I  also  spend  my  time  reading,  and  if  that  isn’t  enough  I’m  often  in  the  kitchen  baking  up  a  treat.

The Seduction Vow, Book 1 EXCERPT:

Graci pulled against Mike's grip. She overestimated how lightly he was holding her and staggered when he immediately let go. Her head was spinning from the vodka, and her balance sucked. She careened into a person standing behind her and might have fallen if a hand hadn't reached out to steady her.
"Whoa. Look out there. You okay?"
"Yes. I'm f-fine," she stammered and, oh great, now the tears had arrived like an unwelcome rainstorm. They choked her voice and trickled down her cheeks. She looked up at the guy holding her arm and into the bluest pair of eyes she'd ever seen.
His forehead puckered as he looked back and forth between Graci and Mike. "This guy bothering you?"
"Hey!" Mike said.
"No. It's nothing like that," Graci said. "He didn't do anything. It's me."
Those eyes were really blue. Unreal blue, like some actor whose name she couldn't think of right now. For a moment, she was so drunk and confused all she could do was stare into those mesmerizing eyes and wonder if he wore tinted contacts or something.
"Forget this." Mike's voice came from somewhere behind her, but it was already far away. Distant.
The blue-eyed man's frown smoothed, and he smiled. "Sure you're okay? You don't look so good."
She sniffed and wiped her damp cheeks. "I'm fine. I just...haven't drunk in a while and I... Oh." Suddenly, the pleasant swirly feeling inside her turned into churning. Her stomach somersaulted and her ears rang. She was going to puke right there in the middle of a crowded club. She clapped a hand over her mouth.
The man didn't ask again if she felt all right. He took a firmer hold of her arm and dragged her through the throng toward the restroom.

I have been Bonnie Dee's fan since I read her paranormal/fantasy book Beloved Bodyguard. I absolutely loved this book and I am definitely getting the whole series. A little bit Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and a mix of RomCom with plenty of laughter. The story starts with the poor main girl Graci, who was recently cheated on by her longtime boyfriend and what was the main problem between the two? The fact that she didn't want to have sex until marriage. Graci's now-ex-boyfriend said he was cool with waiting, but apparently not. Throughout her relationship with her ex, Graci distances herself from her tight-knit group of friends.  An invitation shows up to announce the marriage of one of the said friends. To mend her heart, Graci gets super drunk (where have I heard this before?). As luck would have it, Graci meets Mr. Blue Eyes. He helps her get to the bathroom when she gets sick from all that booze. And thus starts their journey to a relationship. :D

4.5 stars!

about author

Bonnie Dee began telling stories as a child. Whenever there was a sleepover, she was the designated ghost tale teller, guaranteed to frighten and thrill with macabre tales. She still has a story printed on yellow legal paper in second grade about a ghost, a witch and a talking cat.

Writing childish stories for her own pleasure led to majoring in English at college. Like most English majors, she dreamed of writing a novel, but didn't have the necessary focus and follow through at that time in her life. A husband, children and work occupied the next twenty years and it was only in 2000 that she began writing again. Bonnie enjoys reading stories about people damaged by life who find healing with a like-minded soul. When she couldn't find enough books to suit her taste, she began to write them.
