Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.

In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

Ahoy there peeps! Today's post concludes the 3 part series of In the Spotlight with Darynda Jones! This book was released in November and I couldn't get to it fast enough. Despite the fact that I had midterms and was behind in my school reading, I blew it off when this book came in the mail. I would've hugged the UPS guy if he wasn't so scary looking. I ripped into the packaging like an animal and started reading. I have the tendency to be over excited and skim read books just to get to the gist of the plot and subplots, though I did slow down for the scenes between Charley and Reyes. :] So in the Adventures of Charley Davidson, grim reaper and private eye extraordinaire, Charley is still recovering from the events of  Third Grave Dead Ahead. She is fully healed physically, but mentally and emotionally, she is still recovering. She also developed a little bit of agoraphobia and shopper syndrome. After the events of book 3, who wouldn't need some retail therapy? In previous books, we've seen Charley bounce back from everything the bad guys could possibly throw her way, but the darkness that was at the end of book 3 was bad enough that it even made the great Charley stumble.

This book's case revolves around Harper Lowell. She's being stalked and weird things keep happening to her. Everyone Harper knows don't believe which tips Charley off that Harper is not lying. [Charley stashes her at her friend Pari's tattoo shop and goes off to solve her case.]  with all of the retail therapy going on, Charley is flat broke and it after the events of book 3 it isn't likely that she'll ask her dad for a loan. So, Charley tracks down the one person who hasn't paid...Reyes Farrow. After making a shocking discovery which involved [Elaine Oake] Charley is besieged with demons that have possess human hosts; while at a cage fighting match featuring the one and only, Reyes. A minor subplot that came out of this siege is the introduction of Quentin, a deaf teenager who was possessed by a demon, but had it exorcised. Whether the fact that Quentin is going to be a permanent member of the cast or just  a temporary one, is unsure.

Darynda Jones has the tendency to think of so many subplots that could be incorporated into the main plot, but there's not enough room for all of them. :D One of a few that run through this book is a series of arsonist fires that happen all over the city. Who's doing it and why? Another one would involve the "oh so lovable" biker gang and blackmail of the most nefarious kind. With a shocking ending in the Lowell case and the identity of the mysterious new neighbor, this book is a great addition to the series and a wonderfully crafted piece of work. Kudos to you, Darynda. How you plan to top this is something I'm "dying" to know. hahaha

As promised I am giving away a copy of Fourth Grave and the winner has the choice to pick the ebook or hardcover version. Thanks for visiting my blog!
